www.tiogaterrace.org A Message from the President FALL 2019 Welcome Back! Many of us have been busy with summer activities and traveling this summer, but now it’s back to “normal”. First, my usual reminderSchool is back in session and that means kids and school buses on our streets. Last year, we had many complaints about poor driving habits in the Terrace, such as speeding and passing school buses. We have again asked the Sheriff’s office to patrol our streets and give out necessary tickets. In addition, I am again asking anyone who sees this behavior to call the Tioga County Sheriff (687-1010) with as much infor- mation as possible, i.e., date, time, type, style, color and license number of the car and a description of the driver, e.g., male or female, young or old. Ask the Sheriff’s office to be more visible on our streets. Make the call even if you don’t have all the information. The more calls they get, the more we will see them in the Terrace. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, DO NOT SPEED OR PASS school buses! Lives depend on your good driving habits. As reported in the Spring newsletter, the TTCA has been diligently working with the Town of Owego on renova- tions for our two parks. Since our numerous attempts to contact the Parks Supervisor had been unsuccessful, we contacted the Town Supervisor, Don Castellucci. We had several discussions and email exchanges, which led to a number of plans and designs. Mr. Castellucci assured us that funds were earmarked for some of the improve- ments for both parks, this year. Unfortunately, the commitments made to the TTCA, because of our efforts, have not materialized except for improvements in the Woodside Park (where the basketball court has been blacktopped and the fence has been repaired). While we are appreciative of the work in the upper park, none of the progress discussed regarding the Tioga Blvd. Park has been made, and it remains unusable. We continue to pursue the completion of agreed upon improvements and will keep you apprised. We are also disappointed to report the minimal change in the status of 41 Frederick St. The Town of Owego required Mr. McCann to have the property assessed for sale in January, and that was done. However, the contents have not been removed, and Mr. McCann refuses to sell the property with the contents included. A court hearing on July 17th required Mr. McCann to get the property in saleable condition by October 16th (when the next hearing is scheduled). We will continue attending these hearings and will keep you informed. …..and keep in mind, we’d love to see you at our next meeting! Nancy Sydlosky

A Message from the President

FALL 2019

Welcome Back! Many of us have been busy with summer activities and traveling this summer, but now it’s

back to “normal”.

First, my usual reminder—School is back in session and that means kids and school buses on our streets. Last

year, we had many complaints about poor driving habits in the Terrace, such as speeding and passing school

buses. We have again asked the Sheriff’s office to patrol our streets and give out necessary tickets. In addition,

I am again asking anyone who sees this behavior to call the Tioga County Sheriff (687-1010) with as much infor-

mation as possible, i.e., date, time, type, style, color and license number of the car and a description of the driver,

e.g., male or female, young or old. Ask the Sheriff’s office to be more visible on our streets. Make the call even

if you don’t have all the information. The more calls they get, the more we will see them in the Terrace. AND

MOST IMPORTANTLY, DO NOT SPEED OR PASS school buses! Lives depend on your good driving habits.

As reported in the Spring newsletter, the TTCA has been diligently working with the Town of Owego on renova-

tions for our two parks. Since our numerous attempts to contact the Parks Supervisor had been unsuccessful, we

contacted the Town Supervisor, Don Castellucci. We had several discussions and email exchanges, which led to

a number of plans and designs. Mr. Castellucci assured us that funds were earmarked for some of the improve-

ments for both parks, this year.

Unfortunately, the commitments made to the TTCA, because of our efforts, have not materialized except for

improvements in the Woodside Park (where the basketball court has been blacktopped and the fence has been

repaired). While we are appreciative of the work in the upper park, none of the progress discussed regarding the

Tioga Blvd. Park has been made, and it remains unusable. We continue to pursue the completion of agreed upon

improvements and will keep you apprised.

We are also disappointed to report the minimal change in the status of 41 Frederick St. The Town of Owego

required Mr. McCann to have the property assessed for sale in January, and that was done. However, the

contents have not been removed, and Mr. McCann refuses to sell the property with the contents included. A

court hearing on July 17th required Mr. McCann to get the property in saleable condition by October 16th (when

the next hearing is scheduled). We will continue attending these hearings and will keep you informed.

…..and keep in mind, we’d love to see you at our next meeting!

TTCA EDITOR OPPORTUNITY!

An important part of how the TTCA serves the Terrace community is through it’s newsletter. As Editor, you would play an essential role by creating the newsletter to include Terrace news and activities submitted by the various TTCA chairs. Once completed, the newsletter is proofed by the

TTCA officers and then submitted to the printer and posted on the association’s website.

Procedures are available and assistance provided as needed. Please contact Nancy Sydlosky at

[email protected] or 258-0276 if you are interested.

Halloween is approaching, and our decorating contest

will be happening before you know it. We’ll be reviewing

neighborhood outdoor decorations the week before

Halloween (October 21 through October 30). The winner

will receive a $25 gift certificate and the address will be

announced in the next newsletter.

Be Spooky! Be Funny! Be Creative! We can’t wait to

see what you do!

Hello Everyone!

Even though we were hampered by much rain, we had a successful Membership

Drive. Although we didn't equal last year's number, we are still receiving checks. It’s not too late to send in your donation. You can mail your check to

Keri Barrett, 4 Bowen Lane, Apalachin, NY 13732.

Remember, the dues support our four newsletters, Garage Sale expenses,

Holiday Lighting contests, Halloween Parade/Party, a scholarship for a Tioga Terrace graduating student, Santa visits and other educational and fun events

that our residents enjoy.

Thank you to everyone who supports us. A SPECIAL THANKS to our volunteers

who spent their hours going from house to house collecting dues:

Mike and Carolyn Showalter, Andy Chadwick, Erryn Wilson, Jim Shoemaker, Shawn

Kemmery, Darlene Kohles, Steve Reynolds, Mary Cascarino, Meredith Bocek, Amy

Poff, Becky and Joe Dapolito, Louise Esposito, Betty McKay, Vita Rice, Janet Welier,

work for all!

We are fortunate to live in this friendly neighborhood. The Civic Association was

organized in 1961, and we hope to keep it growing strong for years to come.

Good Health and Good Fortune to All!
