Fall 2018
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT VERA J KOHLER, CPOA
When I look back over the years as a member of PPA, I have a lot to be thankful for. The knowledge I received from attending the education provided by PPA has made me an essential part of the practice of Family Eye Health Center in Bradford Pa. I went from the “girl at the front desk” to assisting the doctors in managing patients with cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration etc. I have enjoyed serving the association in several board and committee positions. Co-authoring the Para Manual was one of the biggest accomplishments. Thank you Theola Amundson, Beverly Butler and Roberta Beers for making that happen. I am thankful for all the friends that I have made and would not have if I had not become involved in the association. Theola Amundson, Beverly Butler and Carol Schartner were my mentors and without their guidance I would not be the Para that I am. I also would like to thank the POA board and staff for their guidance through our ups and downs. Good Luck to the 2019 Board of Directors and Committee members. I hope all of you consider your job a career and continue to promote Paraoptometry/Optometry. Yours in Paraoptometry, Vera J Kohler CPOA

Spring Congress will be here before we know it. Mary Schmidt will be our main speaker. She will be traveling
from San Francisco to present awesome education for us. We are reviewing the surveys from Congress and
from Fall Education to help with the class selection for Spring 2019. All of the class topics we choose will be a
topic that has been requested by at least 1 PPA member. Thank you for taking the time to complete the
surveys, all of the responses are greatly appreciated.

Girl Scout Vision Awareness Patch
Hello everyone! Happy fall to you, hope you all are enjoying the crisp air and turning leaves.
I have spent some time getting the Girl Scout Patch materials in a digital format on a thumb drive and finished that project up recently. I was also in contact with two of the three major Girl Scout Councils in PA, namely the Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA, and the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. I have also sent an email to the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania and am awaiting their response.
My goal is to build steam up for this program and make it easier for troops to participate by making the materials visible on the Girl Scout websites. Thus far, both of the councils I’ve been talking with are very excited to be getting the word out. I made them aware that this program has been going on for a while, and that I want to grow the program further if I can.
In the meantime, if any of our offices are interested or have a troop in mind, please reach out to me for information.
Thank you all.
