A Message from the Chief
Welcome to the first edition of our new semester newsletter. We hope you enjoy this new way to keep you informed and connected to exciting news related to our police officers, communication center operators, support staff and the student employees.
We intend to make it a regular publication and to use it to keep you in
touch with the latest news and developments around public safety, our
employees and services. In this and future editions, we want to be
transparent and engaging with our community and how we interact
with community members.
In every issue there will be a “Spotlight” article introducing you to an
employee, as well as articles highlighting some of the accomplishments
of the department during the semester.
I also invite you to click on our “Quick Links” for further information
regarding the police department.

About
Students, faculty, and staff were invited to join Chief Finnie and Wright
State Police Officers for the Fall Semester Coffee and Cookies with the
Chief event. It was held on October 18, 2018 and provided an
opportunity to interact with our officers and ask them questions about
their jobs and campus safety. Community outreach and engagement is
a cornerstone of the Wright State Police Department, and officers
always enjoy the opportunity meet community members.
Be on the lookout for similar events during the 2019 Spring Semester
and don’t forget to say hi when you see our officers patrolling campus.
They’re here for you!
Police Narcotics K9 Jenkka Retires
After three years in the line of duty K9-Jenkka is now enjoying
retirement with her handler Officer Mattison. Jenkka’s retirement
ceremony was held on August 22, 2018 at the Hearth Lounge in the
Student Union. Many officers from the surrounding area attended the
event as Jenkka was frequently called upon to serve the greater
community. K-9 Jenkka is a Belgian Malinois and served as the university
second narcotics canine. She was a tremendous asset to the community
and will be greatly missed. Enjoy your retirement Jenkka!
2018 Operation Move-In
Our favorite time of year is when we get to welcome new and returning
students back on campus during Move-In Day. Our officers were on duty
all day and night meeting students and their families and ensuring
everyone had a safe and productive day. We can’t help but think about
those warmer days as we head into the winter months!
