Our incredibly hardworking, caring and dedicated staff, our amazing and enthusiastic students, and our supportive and positive parents and caregivers, combined to once again make Cedarwood P.S. the vibrant, caring school community that it is. June was a typically active and fun month for all. Some of the highlights included: the staff-student C.H.L. All-Star game, our Kindergarten graduation, multiple field trips, primary play day, the Cedarwood’s Got Talent Show, the Area and Regional Track and Field Meets, Km-Club, and our Green Action Day, just to name a few. All of these events were terrific and we extend a huge thank you to our staff and student leaders for their dedication to offering such a wide range of activities and events to, and for, our students. As we close out the year, we thank Mr. Hayward, Ms. Persaud, Ms. Narayanan, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Murali, Ms. Ellis, Ms. D’Souza, Ms. Tampal and Mr. Semab for their many efforts on behalf of our students over the year, and in some cases, years. We wish them all the best next year as they head off to new schools and new challenges. We are pleased to welcome back Ms. Parsons, Ms. Paul, Ms. Kim, Ms. Takahashi, Ms. Patel, and Ms. Lazarevski who will all be returning from their various leaves. As announced recently, Ms. Padiachy, our vice-principal, is on the move to Markham Gateway P.S. and Milliken Mills P.S. as vice-principal next year. I thank Ms. Padiachy for her many efforts on behalf of the Cedarwood students and community over the past two years. Her caring, compassion, and enthusiasm for the role will be greatly missed! Having said that, I am pleased to welcome Ms. Fenwick to Cedarwood as our new vice-principal. She is currently the vice-principal at Randall P.S. and is excited about becoming a vital part of the Cedarwood community. We are confident that all members of our school community will extend a warm welcome to our new vice-principal! We wish our Grade 8 Graduates all the best as they transition to high school. We thank them for being such great students and citizens during their time at Cedarwood P.S. and know that they will continue to be positive leaders in the future! As in past years, student class assignments and teachers for next year will not be shared at this point. Our enrolment can change over the summer, so we will be waiting until late August to finalize our class placements. On the first day of school, Tuesday, September 6 th , we ask that all students meet on the back tarmac at 7:45 am to meet their new teachers. Our staff will have class lists to help you and they will also be holding signs with their names and grades on them. We are no longer permitted to post class lists so we thank everyone in advance for their understanding and patience during what can be a very busy and hectic morning. As always, we encourage families to walk to school where possible to help reduce the congestion around the school. Finally, our student achievement data is continuing to show that our students are making positive progress in most subject areas. We know from past experience that many of the successes and gains that have been made over the year can be reduced if students don’t keep their bodies and minds active over the summer. Fortunately, there are a variety of summer opportunities available to do just that! Participation in day camps, going to the public library regularly, and/or going on family trips will not only keep children from getting bored but will help to develop their background knowledge and vocabulary, and give them a boost as they head into a new school year. To support families with ideas to help keep our children active this summer, please refer to the page in this newsletter titled “15 Funfilled things to do for summer!” On behalf of the entire Cedarwood staff, we wish everyone a happy and healthy summer and we look forward to seeing everyone in September! Message from our Trustee

As the school year comes to a close, I would like to thank you for all that you have done to

help make this school year a successful one for our students.

We share a common goal - to give our young people every opportunity to reach their full po-

tential, and we all have a role to play in supporting that goal. However you choose to get in-

volved, your engagement and support make a difference. We know that good schools become

better schools when they are connected with families.

Thanks to the ongoing efforts of our students, families, staff members and community part-

ners, we are creating a welcoming, caring and inclusive learning environment that fosters stu-

dent achievement and well-being.

As we move into summer, I encourage you to seek out opportunities to continue and comple-

ment the learning that takes place throughout the school year. That could mean taking a na-

ture walk, visiting a museum or reading a book. Whatever your plans are over the next few

months, I hope you have a safe, relaxing and enjoyable summer.

Juanita Nathan

These are some positive norms that we encourage in Math class at Cedarwood. We believe that…

Please encourage your children to practice this mindset while working on math, as well as other subject areas. Have a safe summer!
