Greetings, and welcome to the

10th annual Breakthroughs in

Engagement, the Arts and Research

(BEAR) Day and Engineering Expo Day

celebration! This year, we once again

showcase outstanding undergraduate

student research and special projects,

albeit it in a very different format.

Traditionally, BEAR Day includes oral

presentations, poster sessions, musical

performances and art show exhibits

scheduled over two days. Only a few

weeks prior to the event, the program this

year had over 280 oral and poster

presentations, with contributions from

over 400 students. It is undeniable that

BEAR Day has become an exciting and inspiring event, and a truly unique

opportunity for our students to present their own cutting-edge research

and artwork. For many students, it represents the transition from Mercer

undergraduate to Mercer alum, and an opportunity to close what may have

been many years of effort towards a final goal. For many students, it is a

rite of passage. For these reasons, when it became clear that COVID-19 would prevent us

from hosting BEAR Day in the traditional format, we quickly retooled the

program to allow students to submit their work online. Nothing can

replace the face-to-face experience of presenting your work in front of

your peers and faculty mentors, but by using the University Research,

Scholarship, and Archives (URSA) database, the work presented at BEAR

Day this year will not only be available to members of our community,

but can be viewed the world over. I invite and encourage you to browse

the work submitted by our undergraduate students and witness the breadth

and depth of what our community has to offer.
