A Message from Phillip Schearer:

Dear Neighbors,

In the May Anvil I wrote that all three candidates running for the Executive Board were elected. My thanks to everyone who

voted for me, but there was too much opposition to remain as board president. I will continue to serve on the board and will

join you in supporting our next president.

Phillip Schearer

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

In April’s Annual meeting, I was pleased to be elected to serve on the OFC executive board. I have lived in the community for

18 years and served on the board previously, so many of you already know me. In the Board Meeting on May 10, I was elect-

ed to serve as president of the OFC Executive Board. The board extends it’s gratitude to Phillip Schearer for ably serving in

this position for the past year. We are pleased that Phillip will continue serving on the board and that Old Forge Crossing will

continue to benefit from his wealth of experience.

The pool is open! Unfortunately our pump broke down as soon as we started it up, giving us all several days of rampant anxie-

ty and delaying filtration of the pool water until a new part arrived. The pump was ultimately repaired in a timely fashion, allow-

ing us to run the filter system and adjust the chemicals so that we could open the pool as planned on Memorial Day Weekend.

Management has rewritten the pool rules which arrived with your pool tags, so please review them. Remember to always bring

your tags when you visit the pool and please obey the lifeguards.

I hope that everyone enjoyed the Memorial Day Picnic. As I write this, the picnic

is still several days in the future, but I will not make the mistake of a historic board

president who was in the habit of describing parties that had not happened yet.

The Social Committee is now making plans for our annual July 4th Seafood Cook-

out so remember to mark your calendars for this popular event.

It is with true sadness that I announce Jim Komer’s resignation as Director,

TownWatch Area 7 (OFC). Jim has been a stalwart pillar of Old Forge Crossing

for 26 years, and his TownWatch patrols have helped keep our community safe.

Jim is handing over the reins to Mike Feagley who will continue Jim’s tradition of

fine leadership of our TownWatch program.

As the days grow longer and the weather turns warmer, we look forward to a new

fiscal year with a reconstituted and reorganized executive board. I hope that you

will share my optimism that in the coming months we will successfully meet the

challenges ahead and will work together so that Old Forge Crossing will continue

to be a great place to live.

Sincerely,

David Inman

Committee Report Highlights

May 10th –Monthly Board Meeting

FINANCE: Reported by Tony Lumbis The operating and capital budget show a surplus. We will be reinvesting 50k from a maturing CD into another CD. Delinquencies are up slightly ,but continue to remain low. There will be a reserve study done by Kipcon in August. It is recommended that it be more thorough in order to reduce un-budgeted expenses. PROPERTY: Reported by Gary Dougherty They approved the treatment for the tent caterpillars. Also, the removal of the yew bushes so that the map signs can be installed was approved. May will be considered Garden Month and a flyer was distributed. Solutions for water access to the Memorial Garden were discussed. A subcommit-tee will be formed to deal with the drainage and asphalt projects. There was a lengthy discussion on the drainage problems. It is a complex and ongoing issue. SOCIAL: Reported by Bill Lobo The Kentucky Derby Party was a success with over 30 residents in attendance. The next event will be the Memorial Day Picnic on Saturday May 28th at 2pm. TOWNWATCH: Reported by Jim Komer The April patrols have increased due to the nicer weather. OFC remains quiet. Jim announced that after 15 years he will be stepping down and Mike Feagley will be taking over. He said it has been an honor to serve on the committee and he thanked the many volunteers over the years.

TOWNWATCH By Jim Komer

Who are Old Forge Crossing TownWatch Patrollers and what do they do? Most TownWatch Patrollers can be identified by their distinctive yellow caps. On the front of the cap, in black, it says TREDYFFRIN TOWNWATCH and has a TownWatch Logo. Also, all Patrollers have a photo ID issued by the Tredyffrin TownWatch Association and signed by the Chief of Police. When in doubt ask to see their ID. Normally, patrollers walk our property for an hour or so, being the “eyes and ears” of the Tredyffrin Township Police. Here at Old Forge they report unlocked doors of the Clubhouse and Barn (though most are usually secured by the Patrols end). They also report any lights that are “flickering” or are out … lights along our walk and drive ways and in alcoves. Also, they re-port unit lights that are out. On occasion, patrollers have alerted residents that have left their car lights on, have left their unit door open, and anything believed to be “out of the ordinary”. When are we Patrolling? We’re fortunate to have Patrollers out during the day and usually most nights. While on Patrol, communication is by cell phones. Patrollers feel comfortable with cell phones and have the ability to contact the Area Director, the police or 911 (in case of an emergency). {Would you believe, I was sitting in a restaurant in Las Vegas, when I received a call from a Patroller informing me that a resident’s car lights were on?} So who are these individuals who have volunteered to insure our area stays safe? Old Forge Crossing active TownWatch Patrollers are: Danielle Cavanaugh (Militia);Jackie Caza (Wagon),Mike Feagley (Colonial), Mike is also the Secretary of the Tredyffrin TownWatch Asso-ciation and has agreed to relieve me as OFC Area Director); Ileen Forcine (Drummers), Sue Sailor (Powder Horn), Ken and Joan Saler (Cobblers); Al Sama (Militia); Phillip Schearer (Kings) and Barbara Weldele (Lanterns). My deepest personal appreciation to one of the finest groups of individuals I’ve had the pleasure of working with … my hat is off to you and a big “Thank You” for caring about our residents and out community. If you’d like to know more about TownWatch and/or need a Volunteer Application, please let me or Mike Feagley know by personal contact (I’m usually at most Social Functions), phone or email at [email protected]. Have a nice summer … remember to be constantly aware of your surroundings.

It’s been an honor for me to have served as the

Old Forge Crossing TownWatch (Area 7) Director these past fifteen years. Thank you to all our residents for making this a delightful community in

which to live.

Management Notes

Rule of the Month While the calendar may say that summer does not officially start until mid-June, we all know that the beginning of pool season is the official start to a season of fun in the sun! The pool rules have been revised this year so please be sure to familiarize yourself with them. Please note that playing in the pool is permitted, but will be regu-lated by the lifeguard on duty. While playing is permitted, this should not interfere with other’s enjoyment of the pool. Ball throwing and splashing may not be enjoyed by those around you, so please be considerate of others in, and around the pool.

Landscaping Our grounds are finally starting to bounce back from a cold winter. Unfortunately, some areas are bouncing more than others. This year, around August or September, our lawns are going to be receiving a treatment called core aeration and turf seeding. With this treatment we’re hoping to revitalize these declined turf areas and encour-age stronger grass growth. Until that time, we will continue with our typical landscape services. Please remember that the landscapers are often onsite until 5 PM, or later. The office often receives calls about walkways not being cleared of grass clippings, but in most cases the landscapers have not reached that section with their blowers just yet.

Heater Closet Storage During the safety inspections one of the most prevalent concerns was storage in heater closets. While this closet is a great place for extra storage, its main duty is to house your heater. The heater needs the ability to breath to operate properly. Hav-ing a heater closet packed with items can be a fire hazard and can cause your heat-er to not run as efficiently as possible. Also, remember that this is a source of heat, so flammable items should not be stored in this closet. Cardboard boxes, spray paint, clothes, and many other items should be relocated. Please keep your home fire hazard free.

BE OUR GUEST Feel free to join us for OFC’s Committee and Executive Board meetings. Please see the Anvil calendar for meeting dates. Topics for this month’s Committee and Execu-tive Board meetings are as follows: Property Committee: Review of several proposals for property and landscap-ing items. Executive Board: Approval for the paving contractor and update. Social Committee: Review of the Memorial Day Picnic. Finance Committee: Review of the May financials Please visit our website at OldForgeXingPa.com for agendas.
