A message from our Chairman.
FALL 2014
Yawgoog Alumni Association Members,
A message from our Chairman.
Yawgoog Alumni Association Members, The 99th Yawgoog camping season has now ended and we will now begin our planning for the celebration of Yawgoog’s 100th Season! But first a recap of YAA’s support to Yawgoog over the past year . . . . Your generosity and support allowed YAA to support Yawgoog programs and infrastructure with the following:
• Rowboats $ 10,500 • CPR mannequins $ 1,400 • Paddleboards $ 5,000 • Sails $ 2,950 • Shotguns $ 7,243 • Picnic tables $ 3,000 • Memorial Room $ 1,000 • Robotics start-up $ 5,000 • Rt. 138 sign design $ 1,300
And now on to the 100th Season . . . We have many events in the planning
and would welcome any recommendations our members may have. Here’s what we are planning so far:
• YAA Day of Service (Spring 2015) o An opportunity for YAA members to pitch in a camp work project
• Centennial Family Camping Weekend (May 30 -31, 2015)
o Activities will include archery range, BB-gun shooting, low COPE course, nature, crafts.
• OA Centennial Conclave (June 5 – 7, 2015) o Yawgoog will be hosting OA’s centennial celebration.
• Week 1 Saturday Night Show (July 4, 2015)
o The official kick-off of the two year centennial celebration.
• Yawgoog Days (August 1, 2015) o Our annual reunion with an opportunity to once again experience Yawgoog. Activities will
include: a swim in Yawgoog Pond, paddle boarding, shooting sports, tours, memorabilia sale, . . .
• Centennial Family Camping Weekend II (September 2015)
o Activities will once again include archery range, BB-gun shooting, low COPE course,
nature, crafts.
We should all be excited for the beginning of our Centennial Celebration! The next two years should be
filled with exciting events that will help all of us relive our time at Camp. Please include your friends and
families in the celebration. Be sure to contact all your Scouting friends and remind them that this is their
opportunity to reconnect with the place we all love so much.
Yours in Scouting, Jim . . .
Thank you ! ! !

Can you help identify the people in these photos!

Yawgoog Days 2014
On August 2nd we gathered for the 34th time at our favorite camping place. On this special day alumni
were given the opportunity to swim in Yawgoog Pond, paddle a canoe, enjoy a rowboat, kayak, sail, try
out the new paddleboards, learn low COPE skills, make a basket, braid a lanyard, and do all the fun things
we did as Scouts. Breakfast, lunch and the Chief Yawgoog BBQ were provided. Unfortunately the
weather did not cooperate and attendance was not as we had hoped. We are grateful that Camp Yawgoog
opened the aquatics and program areas to Alumni and even more grateful to be told that future Yawgoog
Days gatherings will follow with the same agenda.
Our Reservation Director, Tom Sisson, made us welcome as did all members of the Yawgoog Staff. In
excess of 70 Alumni walked down memory lane and relived that time in our lives when Yawgoog was
key to all that we did. Many Alumni took advantage of the open camp programs and tested skills learned
many years ago. Bus tours gave each of us the opportunity to see all the improvements to Yawgoog
facilities and to also visit that part of Yawgoog that remains very special in our memories. At Donald
North Court, the Heritage Center memorabilia displays drew the attention of many Alumni. The Heritage
Center excess patch and memorabilia sale was enjoyed by all and raised in excess of $1,000.00. Fun was
had by all.
Special thanks to the Ranger Staff for getting the camp ready for us. The Camp Staff remains key to the
success ofYawgoog Days. Our Campmaster Corps is the best. Breakfast and lunch were excellent, mid-
afternoon fruit and snacks were appreciated, and the Chief Yawgoog BBQ continues to be the best in
Rhode Island.
The YAA was pleased to present Camp Yawgoog with our 2014 projects which included paddleboards,
rowboats, rifles, shotguns, sails, and CPR mannequins. When all the bills are paid, we expect our total
project effort to exceed $25,000.00. We look forward to 2015 and the Centennial year for camping at
Yawgoog. Stay tuned as our 2015 projects become finalized.
Jim Cunha, YAA Chairman, held our business meeting at the Trading Post porch because of rain. Scout
Executive John Mosby, attended the meeting expressing appreciation for all that the YAA does for
Scouting and Camp Yawgoog. He also gave a very detailed review of activities and events planned for
the Centennial Celebration. Following the business meeting Alumni gathered for the traditional decade
photos.
Thank you to each member of the YAA Executive Committee for your tireless efforts in producing a
“world class” Yawgoog Days. Jim Lanzi as Chairman is key to the gathering’s success. Finally, each
YAA member is important as we carry on the work of our hero and founder, Gus Anthony.
We look forward to seeing you at the 2015 Yawgoog Days when we will celebrate 100 years of delivering
the Scouting program at Camp Yawgoog. May the “Spirit of Yawgoog” be with you till we meet again at
our favorite camping place.

Thank you to those who have previously given memorabilia and artifacts to the Heritage Center. Through your generosity we have been able to
provide interesting and informative displays for Scouts of every generation. We are always seeking additional memorabilia, artifacts, and documents to make our collection more complete. Our objective is to preserve Camp Yawgoog’s heritage so each new generation of Scouts will be exposed to its history, lore, and traditions. Please consider a gift of your own Camp Yawgoog memorabilia and artifacts so that together we can promote the heritage and values of Yawgoog.
Request for Memorabilia Donations
During the past few Yawgoog Days we have generated much excitement and generated nice extra revenue with a Patch Sale held on Yawgoog Day. This revenue has gone into the general fund used
give back to Camp Yawgoog. Please consider donating your box of old patches. Please see ARTIFACT DONATION FORM in this newsletter.
