Lesson Introduction Activity:
Chariot Rides Based on activity in Gospel Light’s Movers and Shakers Winter A pg 51.
Do: Let children take turns sitting in the basket chariot while an adult pulls them
across the room.
Talk About: • A chariot is a type of carriage usually pulled by horses
that people used to travel through the desert.
• In our Bible Story today, a man named Philip walked down
a road in the desert. Philip saw a man riding in a chariot.
Today we will hear how Philip helped this man.
Bible Story: Read the story from The Read With Me Bible.
The Man from Ethiopia The Read with Me Bible
Page 411-414
An angel of the Lord spoke to Philip: “Go south to the desert road that goes down
from Jerusalem to Gaza.” On his way he met an Ethiopian official. The man had an
important position. He was in charge of all the wealth of the queen of Ethiopia. He
had gone to Jerusalem to worship. On his way home he was sitting in his chariot.
He was reading the book of Isaiah. Philip heard the man reading. “Do you
understand what you’re reading?” Philip asked. “How can I?” he said. “I need
someone to explain it.” He invited Philip to come up and sit with him. Then Philip
told him the good news about Jesus. As they traveled along the road, they came to
some water. The official said, “Look! Here is water! Why shouldn’t I be
baptized?” Then both Philip and the official went down into the water. Philip
baptized him.
Discussing the story: Ask: What was the Ethiopian doing? Who helped him understand what he was
reading? So what did he do?
Say: The Ethiopian was reading God’s Word. Philip helped him understand it. He
was then baptized.
Pray: Thank God for Jesus. Thank God for missionaries. Ask God to help all of us
to be missionaries for Jesus.
Closing Prayer/Echo Prayer: Have the children repeat the words after you. Lord,
Use all of me to share the news
so others can love You as I do.
In Jesus name, amen.
Craft Activity:
Philip Megaphone
After the children finish coloring the pictures, help them tape or staple the
paper into a megaphone (to tell others about Jesus).
Bible Activity:
Good News Game
Do: Everyone sits in circle on the floor. Toss a plush heart or a soft ball to a
family member and say, Jesus loves YOU. That person tosses the heart back to
you as you say, And Jesus Loves ME. Repeat with each person.
PRAYER FOR YOUR CHILD
Father, please give (child’s name) the authentic courage to be Your witness to those who are close
to them and to those who live far away.

Philip Tells the Ethiopian Scripture Reference
Acts 8:26-40
Things to talk about:
• Philip helped a man learn about Jesus’ love. What else do we know about Jesus? (He
listens to our prayers. He will always help us.)
• Who are some people we can tell about Jesus’ love?
Words to pray together:
Dear God, Thank you for (say names child mentioned). Help us tell them and other
people the good news about Jesus. In Jesus’ name, amen.
