Ironpriest’s Leon Spurling spoke to the Centralian Advocate about the two-act gig, calling it a get-together with some mates. ‘‘We’ve all known each other for 20 years,’’ Leon said. ‘‘We basically grew up together so it was getting a bunch of established musos together to touch on songs we all grew up with and love. ‘‘It’s basically a cover band doing a collection of our favourite metal songs. ‘‘It’s a bit of a tribute to the songs I grew up and loved, and the players and the bands. ‘‘Get out to play some metal covers because there is a big metal following here in town.’’ You can expect to hear classics from metal bands Judas Priest, Slayer, Metallica and Black Sabbath. Leon said it’s good that the next generation of metal lovers has taken the flag. ‘‘It’s good (because) you’ve got the likes of Pirate, Miazma and Uncreation,’’ he said. ‘‘It’s an extreme style of metal, but it’s great. They’ve taken the flag, run with it and done it better.’’ He recounted how Nokturnal’s Craig Tilmouth started the first metal band before Leon set up his own. ‘‘It’s an evolution and it’s great to see,’’ Leon said. Saturday night’s performance will be a debut for Ironpriest, who are opening for the established act Nokturnal, who are headlining Desert Music Club at Todd Tavern on Mon- day night. ‘‘It’s a bit of a get it out there,’’ Leon said. ‘‘It’s all come together really well — it’s going to be a good night. ‘‘For me, personally — it’s good to put the acoustic away for a while.’’ Ironpriest has also recruited acous- tic legend Gareth Dawkins as the lead singer, which Leon said was a nice break for him as well. ‘‘Getting up there and screaming Metallica,’’ Leon said. ‘‘He’s a bit of an old school metalhead as well so he was extremely excited to get involved when I floated the idea. ‘‘That’s the whole idea of Saturday night. Conference gives artists an opportunity to connect REGISTRATION is now open for a three-day music conference for bands, musicians and music industry professionals in Al- ice Springs. A handful of industry leaders including Triple J’s Dom Alessio, Footstomp Records’s Graham Ashton and Ink Music Publishing’s Stephen King will attend the conference, giving you an opportunity to connect with industry professionals in an intimate setting. The conference will fea- ture sessions on releasing your music, management and publicity. There is also the ‘‘feedback on five’’ session where local acts can play their best five minutes of music to a panel of music industry experts. Previous FO5 acts have received pub- lishing deals and internat- ional tours. Musicians will also have the opportunity to perform in front of some of the country’s leading music in- dustry figures at the after- hours showcase. The Tongue’s dropping by ONE of Australia’s best known hip hop artists will be dropping in to perform at Bojangles as part of his national tour at the end of the month.
