Letter from the GM
Notes from Robin: Greetings! A couple weeks ago, we had a Resident Meeting. Many were able to attend but for those that missed it, here are a few highlights: *Much of the meeting was spent discussing our renovations. We are very close to being completed. The first floor carpet and the Dining Room are the main items remaining. Once we have all the new décor and furniture in place, we will have a better idea how everything fits. Your comfort and satisfaction is most important. We will assess (after everything is in place) if any changes, moving furniture, etc…need to happen. *We discussed the new menus and introduced the Food Committee members. Please feel free to share any comments with these folks who will then present at the next meeting. *And finally…I shared that I will be getting married! June 27th is my wedding date. I will be gone on my honeymoon that following week as well as a week mid July. I just didn’t want anyone to think I ran off to get married and not coming back. Thank you for all the well wishes! Window washing will occur in the garden homes June 16th and 17th. Lincoln Lodge will be completed June 19th. They will clean inside and outside your windows. If you do not want your inside windows washed, please let me know. A list will be distributed with the order soon. Garden Home Residents- *Pruning will begin mid June. I know many of you have put in landscape requests. I pass that information along to Mainscape. When calling in a request, please ask the front desk to pass this along to me or ask to speak to me directly.
We would like to welcome our

*I am still attempting to work with Republic regarding your trash bins. I’m sorry this has been a frustration for some of you. Lastly, I received this letter from Indiana University for those that are interested- Attention Persons Who Wear Lower Partial Dentures Needed are 18 to 80 year olds who wear lower partial dentures to participate in lower partial denture studies at the Oral Health Research Institute on the IUPUI campus. You must already have a comfortably fitting lower partial denture. Persons who wear a lower partial denture will be paid $25 cash for attending a screening visit, whether they qualify or not. Once qualified, persons participating in future lower partial denture studies can be paid $200-$600 per study and receive free dental cleanings. To learn more about the partial denture studies, please call (317) 274-3740 and ask to speak with a representative of the partial denture studies. As always, please do feel free to drop in and see me. Have a terrific month!
Yours truly,
Robin Van Overwalle

I would like to take this opportunity to share this testimony from a Lincoln Lodge family
member.
“Fiercely independent” and “pleasantly confused” are the words we have heard from those who know her and those who are acquainted with her at Lincoln Lodge, American Village.
With the input and advice of professionals, we determined that, for now, the best place for our Mom to be was in her own apartment. Since we were not able to be there daily- to remind her of meds and hair appointments and how to fix her TV remote and where she put her coffee pot – we searched for an alternative to help her though the day.
That invaluable assistance was provided by Great Care, a company offering a la carte services for independent-living residents at American Village.
And then when we realized there might be a need for additional help through the night, Great Care was right there with a new service called Sleep Safe. Our Mom is NOT a morning person but rather an insomniac for as long as we can recall.
Jeanette, her care-giver, could relate as a night owl herself. The Sleep Safe program was customized to our Mom’s needs and has been revised as needed along the way.
Goal achieved to date………….to keep our Mom independent for as long as possible, with the help of Great Care and Sleep Safe.”
If you have questions about services, please contact Great Care directly at 317.595.9933
Did you know Great Care is in Lincoln Lodge 24 hours a day?
They can provide care services from 7am-7pm in 15 minute increments as well as

Health Notes from Kayla Kuryvail New Energy Wellness
Skin Care and Aging
Your skin changes with age. It becomes thinner, loses fat, and
no longer looks as plump and smooth as it once did. Your
veins and bones can be seen more easily. Scratches or cuts
can take longer to heal. Years of being out in the sun may
have lead to wrinkles, dryness, age spots, and even cancer.
But there are things you can do to protect your skin and to
make it feel and look better.
Bruises
Older people may bruise more easily than younger people.
And, it can take longer for the bruises to heal. Some
medicines or illnesses may cause bruising. If you see bruises
and you don't know how you got them, especially on parts of
your body usually covered by clothing, see your doctor.
Wrinkles
Over time, skin begins to wrinkle. Things in the environment,
like ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun, make the skin less
elastic. Gravity can cause skin to sag and wrinkle.
Certain habits also can wrinkle the skin. Some of these habits
are easier to change than others. You may not be able to
change your facial expressions, but you can quit smoking.
A lot of claims are made about how to make wrinkles go
away. Not all of them work. Some can be painful or even
dangerous, and many must be done by a doctor. Talk with a
doctor specially trained in skin problems (a dermatologist) or
your regular doctor if you are worried about wrinkles.
