May 2020 , Volume 39, Number 5 1 Western North Carolina Quilters Guild A Letter from our President Dearly valued members of the Western No. Carolina Quilt Guild, I’m sure that at the beginning of this year none of us had any idea that we would be in our present situation. The whole world has come to a standstill in response to the threat of a brand new virus. We’ve given up social time, shopping time, travel time. We’ve stayed home, dusted off the old cook books, spruced up our yards, and taken solace with our sewing machines as our new best friend. True to form we quilters have proved resourceful, resilient, and generous. We have used our talents in the service of others. It would be interesting to count up the actual number of gowns for healthcare workers and face masks for family and friends that we’ve made. Those that didn’t do much sewing contributed a lot of fabric from their own stash. (And we thought we’d never get rid of all that fabric, nor witness how quickly quarter-inch elastic could become a most precious commodity!) We also have realized that the love we share with our families and the camaraderie with our friends and neighbors provide the greatest value in our lives. We have found wonderful creative ways to stay connected with each other. We all are most eager to get this crisis behind us and resume our lives. I hope we will be able to look back on this year as a time when we were reminded of what was really important to us, as a time of positives as well as inconvenience for most of us, but true suffering for some. I, for one, am so grateful to be living in the mountains of North Carolina where the Spring is the most beautiful season of all, and we can take the time to revel in nature’s glorious display right in our own neighborhoods. I’m looking forward to seeing you all again as soon as possible! Linda Gillette, president

Western North Carolina Quilters Guild

A Letter from ourPresident

Dearly valued members of the Western No. Carolina Quilt Guild,

I’m sure that at the beginning of this year none of us had any idea that we would be in our present situation.

(And we thought we’d never get rid of all that fabric, nor witness how quickly quarter-inch elastic could become a most precious commodity!)

We also have realized that the love we share with our families and the camaraderie with our friends and neighbors provide the greatest value in our lives.
