Short Term Strategy
• How do we incorporate these individuals who may not have experience in
manufacturing but have the aptitude and interest to be in the career field?
• Pilot an accelerated program
• Work with Bexar County Judicial Services and Veterans Service Office as
referral streams
• Providing TX FAME companies an option to upskill incumbents
Technical Assessment
• Use hands-on mechanical assessment
• Standardized assessment for incumbents
and non-incumbents
• Outcomes exceeded expectations!
Accelerated 8-weekTraining
• Chose 20 individuals who scored average on the assessment• Showed some mechanical skill as well as room for
improvement through training
• Non-incumbents were set up with a success coach for wraparound services and experiential learning opportunities with TX FAME companies and other manufacturers
• Stand-out non-incumbent success story: re-entry
Outcomes
• Wraparound services are critical for non-incumbents’ success
• Engaging companies to offer experiential learning opportunities
was more difficult than we anticipated
• Special hiring initiative
• Combined recruitment efforts to give individuals both options
• Scaling the accelerated with strong wraparound services
