PLANNING

Thoughts about having a 50 Class of 1963 reunion gave good cause to start havingth

regular gatherings for planning purposes and hence our “First Tuesday” lunches. Luckily,we started gathering a couple of years before the event was to be held. The lunches wereenjoyed by all and have continued through 2014 and hopefully will continue. All classmatesare invited to join. You can contact Twink or just send an email to [email protected] toget on the notification list.

Ring of Honor Wall

Another gift to the school was thepurchase of 19 commemorative tiles fortheir new “Ring of Honor”. It is acircular cement block wall located justinside the entrance to the footballstadium. Students, their families orAlumni can purchase a half or full 8"x8"tile to be permanently displayed honoringa person or class ($100/$150) One of ourclassmates coordinated this effort so theClass of ‘63 was included in the firstbatch of tiles to be made for the wall soour tiles are front and center. We visitedthe wall after our November “FirstTuesday” lunch, 2014. The top of thewall will de decorated with Amphitheaterlettering and lights. Since our Memory

book is so late in being published, we were able to get photos of the tiles and the new wall.

John L. Siler passed away in his sleep on Monday, May 23, 2011. He was born March 24, 1945 at MercyHospital in San Diego. After the war, his parents moved back to Kentucky and found their way west toArizona when John and his brother Thomas were little. They lived in Coolidge, Marana and Tucson. AfterJohn’s desire to join the military was halted by a fencing foil accident to an eye, he broadened his major totheatre, speech, communications, journalism, and English. He traveled with friends, taught for a year inHuntington Beach and settled in Coolidge where he married, adopted a little girl and started a drama club andThespian Troupe. He was instrumental in getting the community to support the building of the Coolidge HS

After three years of teaching English, his “experimental afternoon drama classes” turned into afull theatre program. John once again led community influence to build a high school auditorium which is still the primaryperformance venue in Payson. John and Kathy joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church where John first served as a Deaconand then as an Elder and recently as a Sabbath School Bible Teacher. John was preceded in death by his younger brothers,Robert (1995) and Thomas (2010) and his parents, Dallas and Dorothy, in 2000. John is survived by his beloved wife Kathy, loving daughter Candice, five grandchildren, niece Serene (Matthew) Shannon of Ohio, nephews Dallas (LeAnn) Siler andThomas Evan both of Chandler. John was an influential person positively affecting the lives of many people including manystudents over the years who gained insight and appreciation for their own abilities. John’s Celebration of Life will beSaturday, June 25 at 2:30 pm in the Payson High School Auditorium. A graveside service will be held at Valley ViewCemetery north of Coolidge on Monday, June 27 at 9:00 am. Instead of flowers or plants, please donate to the John L. We took a trip back east to seethe grand kids and stopped to see him in Fort Smith. We had a nice dinner and visit and was looking forward to many more. He had beaten the cancer but was still having flashbacks of Viet Nam. Apparently he hit his head and died from a blood clot. His wife found him sitting in his chair. Thanks for connecting John and I back together... we were able to share many phoneconversations and our visit this summer. Please share this information with the Amphi classmates that knew John.”
