Sometimes, it can be all too easy to add plain black heels and a clutch bag before heading out of the door. However, adding a pop of contrasting colour can seriously turn this outfit into something spectacular. You can do this by adding a colourful clutch, and some colour popping jewelry. For example, bright pink and emerald green can work wonders together, as can midnight blue and bright orange. You can choose any two colours you like the most. This look is great for people who love to stand out!
The Date Night Jacket
If you’re wearing your cocktail dress out on a date, then it’s wise to add a little jacket over the top to keep you a bit more covered up. You never know when it might get chilly either! When choosing your date night jacket, you don’t want something that swamps your figure or the cut of the dress. This means you need to choose carefully! I find sequined jackets look amazing, but they aren’t for the faint of heart. You could go with a nice blazer if you’re a little more on the conventional side, but still want to look smart. The idea of this look is to make sure you’re leaving something to the imagination!

One of my favourite ways to accessorise mini cocktail dresses, is to apply makeup so that they stand out. Sure, you could tone it down a little to let the dress do the talking; but where’s the fun in that?! Why not wear orange lippy with a green dress, for example? You’ll create a dramatic look and it’ll look great in pictures!
Mixing Metals
Contrary to what people think, you can mix silver and gold coloured metals. Some people refuse to wear even a hint of the other colour when wearing one, and this is just plain silly. Some coloured items of clothing look amazing with both, so pile on your favourite jewelry and work this look!
Ballet Flats
Although heels make your legs look longer and leaner, ballet flats are much more comfortable. Just throwing on a pair of these can make a cocktail dress perfect for day time, providing you don’t go overboard with your accessories and makeup. Of course you can still wear makeup and accessories, just make sure you keep things simple and clean. You don’t want to look as if you’ve tried too hard. You’ll then be able to do your thing all day long because you’ll be so comfortable.
