This booklet has been prepared bythe Poynton Area CommunityPartnership (PACP) to increaseawareness and to inform you, ourresidents, about the many social andvoluntary groups in your local area.

Having a hobby andsocialising with like-minded people isgood for everyone’shealth and well-being, and we hopethis booklet will giveyou the basicinformation you need tohelp realise those benefits.

Interested in joining a group but areworried about going on your own? Weunderstand, but all the groups whohave provided information for thispromotional booklet have assured usthat newcomers will be given a warmwelcome.

If you know someone who may belonely or on their own, but you thinkwould like to be involved with a group,

please think about encouraging andsupporting them to attend.

Being lonely doesn’t just affect olderpeople, but statistics show that it is aworrying and major problem.

The leader of Britain’sGPs, Dr Helen Stokes-Lampard says ‘beinglonely can be as badfor someone’shealth as having along-term illnesssuch as diabetes or

high blood pressure’.

While GPs see patients who mighthave lost their partner, husband, wife, and who might have multiple healthproblems like diabetes, hypertensionand depression, often their mainproblem isn’t medical - they’re lonely.

See some interesting and stark factsand figures about loneliness at theback of this booklet.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
