General InformationGeneral InformationBefore I start with the main theme, I’d like to show some general information about nourishment.

Main definitions:

Nourishment : a source of materials to supply the body with what is necessary for life, health, and growth.

Obesity: having a body weight more than 20 percent greater than recommended for the relevant height and thus being at risk from a number of serious illnesses, including diabetes and heart disease.

BMI (Body Mass Index) - a simple weight to height ratio (kg/m2), is typically used to classify overweight and obese adults.

In all meals we should include:

•Water

•Grains (bread, pasta, rice…);

•Vegetables

•Fruit

•Meats and Beans

•Milk

•Fats

A 35 years old man, with physical activity during 30 to 60 min per day, should eat the following:

•Grains (bread, pasta, rice…);•9 ounces

•Vegetables•3.5 cups

•Fruit•2 cups

•Meats and Beans•6.5 ounces

•Milk•3 cups

•Fats •8 teaspoons of oil

Obesity: a big problemObesity is a big problem in all world. Children is getting fatter and fatter each day!

Causes and EffectsCauses and EffectsThere are multiple causes for Obesity:Genetic factors:Obesity tends to run in families. A child with an obese parent, brother, or sister is more likely to become obese.

Dietary habits:Children’s dietary habits have shifted away from healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to a much greater reliance on fast food and sugary drinks.

Physical inactivity:The popularity of television, computers, and video games translates into an increasingly sedentary (inactive) lifestyle for many people.

How is this possible?!?!

Causes and EffectsCauses and EffectsObesity is not only damaging for self-image but also can develop chronic diseases:

Diabetes: affects the production of insulin in the body, causing damages in the cells, making them be incapable to receive energy.Do not miss this video!

Cardiac Problems: Fat accumulation in the blood vessels can block the passage of blood in the heart causing some part of the heart to die.

Cancer: Obesity can increase the aggressiveness of many diseases like cancer.

Pregnancy Dysfunctions: If an obese woman gets pregnant, her baby can have serious problems.

Mc Donald’s, when I can cook delicious pancakes at home?

For the Filling2 ripe bananas, choppedjuice of 1 lemon50g/2oz ready-to-eat dried apricots, chopped50g/2oz toasted almonds, chopped5ml/1tsp groundnut oil

Method: To make the pancakes blend the flours, poppy seeds, soya milk and salt in a blender or food processor.Leave to stand for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, make the filling by mixing the bananas, lemon juice, apricots and almonds together.Heat a little oil in a non–stick pancake pan.Use a 50ml/2oz ladle to measure the batter for each pancake.Pour the batter for one pancake into the pan, swirling it around to cover the base evenly.Cook until set and golden brown underneath, then flip the pancake over and cook the other side.Make 8 pancakes and layer to keep warm. Fill each pancake with a couple of spoonfuls of the fillingand fold into quarters.Arrange 2 on each serving plate with a spoonful of soya yoghurt.

For the Pancakes 50g/2oz plain white flour 50g/2oz gram flour, sifted15g/1/2oz poppy seeds300ml/1/2 pint soya milkpinch of salt5ml/1tsp sunflower oil150ml/5floz natural soya yoghurt
