Before you begin the application process, here are some hints and tips. You’ll find more detailed help and advice at oncampus.citi.com

1. Create a great application

We’re looking for a clear, well-presented snapshot of you and all your achievements so far, both academic and extra-curricular. It should present your qualifications, skills and attributes to us in a way that shows us how suitable you are for the role. But it should also give us an insight into what makes you unique.

Don’t keep it to yourself. Get plenty of people to check over it: friends, family, career counsellors – and ideally anyone you know who already works in our industry. Accuracy is important and a simple automatic spell-check is often not good enough.

2. Don’t be late

Our recruitment process is competitive and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so apply early to ensure the greatest chance of success.

3. Meet us

If you can make it to one of our on-campus events, you’ll get an invaluable insight into life at Citi, our different business areas and your perfect role. After all, the best way to get a feel for

an employer is to speak to someone who works there.

4. Do our personalities match?

We look for people who relish early responsibility and who tend to get bored if they’re not being challenged. An excellent academic record is important, but so is your potential – your capacity to learn, your ethical orientation, your engagement with Citi and your ability to work in an inclusive and diverse environment. You should have an affinity for teamwork and a tendency to take the initiative. You’ll be the kind of person who questions the status quo, assumes responsibility and shows a willingness to drive things forward. Above all, you have to want to make a positive difference.

5. Check the website

It’s packed with information about us and our business, the application process and our programs. Check the FAQs section at citi.com/oncampus/index/#/faq and research the business area you would ideally like to work in. Ask yourself why you want to work there – we’ll want to hear that answer too.

minds in the business, and is combined with real-world experience and senior executive exposure. It’s the perfect launch pad for a successful career at Citi. Summer Internships

One of the primary ways in which we identify the very best talent is through internships. These are paid programs aimed at penultimate-year students (although if you’re in a different year, don’t worry too much – we don’t like to turn away exceptional candidates). Internships generally run for 10-12 weeks over the summer, with some countries offering opportunities at other times of the year. You’ll be exposed to a mixture of training, social events and professional experience. At the end of the internship, we offer the best people a full-time role, starting after graduation. Internships are available for analysts (undergraduate and Master’s students) and associates (MBA/PhD students).

Here’s a quick look at the types of programs available in Asia-Pacific: Full-Time Undergraduate/Master’s Program (Analyst)

Our Analysts are bright, accomplished and highly motivated people with outstanding communication skills and a true passion for business. If you are in your last year of undergraduate or Master’s degree study, consider our Full-Time Analyst Program. The combination of in-depth training, mentorship opportunities, and interaction with clients and senior management will help launch you on your career path as an Analyst. Full-Time MBA Program (Graduate, MBA or PhD – Associate)

Our Full-Time Associate Program is designed for those in their last year of an MBA, JD or PhD program. We’re looking for candidates with wide-ranging backgrounds and interests to complement the diverse talents of our outstanding Associates. Our intensive training program is run by some of the best

At Citi we’re interested in connecting with the most talented and ambitious people, irrespective of what stage of their studies they’ve reached. So here, alongside the more traditional graduate programs for Associates and Analysts, you’ll find internship opportunities which enable you to learn more about us during your studies – and challenge yourself at the same time.

Placements

Our placements are long term and can range between 6-12 months. The scope of work and training is similar to that of our internship program where you will be exposed to a mixture of training, social events and professional experience. Placement opportunities and length are driven by university course and accreditation requirements. Please check with your university on available placements opportunities

Management Associate

Many of our office locations across Asia-Pacific offer Management Associate Programs at both analyst and associate level. These vary in length, but they are generally between 18 and 24 months – the exact timing will depend on your location. Citi pioneered the ATM in 1977 in New York City – that’s less than 40 years ago. Today, 90% of the world’s population is within a 15-minute walk of an ATM, giving them access to their money 24/7.

Citi now operates over 26,000 ATMs around the world.

It’s an innovation that has changed how people bank, shop and live across the planet. And we’ve been stimulating and challenging the minds of some of the world’s most talented innovators ever since.

So imagine what’s coming next.

ICG in APAC offers opportunities in Corporate and Investment Banking, Markets and Securities Services, Treasury and Trade Solutions, Citi Private Bank, Capital Markets Origination and Investment Research.

Operations and Technology

Citi puts a strong emphasis on technology, employing 110,000 people across 102 countries. At the core of the business is building technologies, and using the latest technology stack to drive improved business processes for our clients. There is a wide range of technology used to support the backbone of our business. For instance, setting up clusters of Hadoop & Hive to manage big data, and utilizing the latest frontend technologies like HTML5/CSS3 with AngularJS (and others) to enable cutting-edge user interface.

Citi also makes significant investments in mobile technologies – iPhone, Android and to a small extent Windows Phone. For backend, there are opportunities to dive into Java and .NET, and build systems to manage huge data volumes with grid computing and server

optimization techniques. If you are interested in the quantitative side of things and want to write algorithms to pick up trade signals then there is a strong presence of Quants team across all asset classes (Commodities, FX, Equities) where core is written in C. On the creative end of things there opportunities to focus on user interface and experience design.

AAMIR

I started with Citi as an intern in the Hong Kong office. I then did an internship in New York before moving back to Hong Kong for the Market Analyst Program. It’s a two-year program with four rotations in the first year and a permanent placement in the second.

OPPORTUNITIES

Two things stand out for me: global mobility and the rotational program. You get local access to lots of different offices. If you’re qualified for a role, it’s easy to move around. This level of mobility is unmatched anywhere else. Other banks also don’t have our rotational program. You get to know every desk and every product. That way you can discover what really interests you.

THE CULTURE

There are lots of very talented, very respectful people at Citi. No one’s arrogant or looks down on you because you’ve just started. Citi also rewards you for your efforts. They give credit to anyone who makes a contribution to a desk or product. It feels like a very fair environment, which is probably why the staff turnover rate is so low.

MY ADVICE

Make sure to meet new people, meet new desks and meet their desk heads. It’ll help you find your next rotation and maybe even the role or area you want to be in permanently. Also, when you’re on your rotation, learn as much as you possibly can. People here are happy to share their experience and product knowledge with you, so take the opportunity to learn and grow.

I was drawn to Citi because it’s a global bank with a strong focus in Asia and a balance sheet that generates business for its highly reputable Investment Banking Division. We excel across all of our products, so clients come to us because they know we can get any job done.

MY AREA

Investment banking is about advising businesses on how to complete large, capital-intensive transactions. We pitch ideas to clients and execute transactions on their behalf. This could mean buying something, selling something, raising money or distributing money. The deals are varied and complex, so I’m always learning something new and pushing myself further.

OPPORTUNITIES

The training and mentorship are first class, as is the exposure you get to interesting people and situations inside, and outside, Citi. In my first year as an Analyst I was going to meetings with people I never would have normally met. I’ve also been given the chance to live and work in London, and to be surrounded by people who excel in their respective fields.

THE PEOPLE

It’s a really interesting group of people here. They’re all from diverse backgrounds, they’re all highly intelligent and they’re all very friendly. It’s a real benefit. Because when you spend so much time together, it helps to like the people you work with.

MY ADVICE

Be yourself in the office. Being friendly and having a sense of humor can go a long way. It’ll make people like you, make them more willing to help you, much more willing to teach you and a lot more forgiving when you make mistakes.

YOU CAN USE TECHNOLOGY TO SERVE HUMANITY.Citi helped make pension payments timely and reliable in Thailand. The Government Pension Fund (GPF) is the country’s largest pension provider, with over a million members. When making pension payments though, they experienced difficulties due to payment volumes, the distinction between contributing and non-contributing fund members and the wide array of banking partners used.

So we created a tailored solution that streamlines the management of payments across the country. Not only is the solution secure and robust enough to handle the vast number of payments required, but it was created and implemented within 90 days.

This is just one of the ways our work is helping to positively affect lives. Ready to help create a better world? Join us.

The 70:20:10 model

We base our learning and development on the 70:20:10 model. While training is an absolute necessity for developing a base of knowledge, only 10% of what we learn in the workplace directly comes from training. The rest comes from learning from others (20%) and primarily learning on the job (70%).

So on one of our programs, high-quality, award-winning training will give you a strong base. But we’ll also help you build your network – enabling you to learn directly from some of our best people. And on top of this, we’ll provide you with the bespoke support you need to learn on the job from the day you join your desk – whatever your background.

Citi is both complex and diverse, so the details of each program will vary, but all programs and placements are centered on the 70:20:10 approach. Further information on individual graduate programs can be found at oncampus.citi.com

We aim to give young people competitive skills and access to financial and other resources, through a combination of education, livelihoods, vocational skills training or entrepreneurship preparation.

Diversity

We’re committed to inclusion internally, too. To join Citi is to become a member of one of the most diverse companies in the world – we have been compared to a mini United Nations. And not all our people work from financial hub cities. In fact, over 98% of our 260,000 employees work locally, in over 100 different countries.

Citi actively benefits from a workforce with different backgrounds, perspectives and ideas. To support that diversity, we have over 40 global diversity networks, plus a host of Citi Clubs to engage you physically and mentally. Then there are lifestyle management services and health care, mentoring, training and development programs.

Citi Women

Women are a powerful force for economic growth – not just in our own business, but in industries, sectors and geographies worldwide. Citi Women runs two best-in-class programs: Women Leading Citi, which targets MDs; and the Women’s Leadership Development Program, which targets high-potential director-level females.

Worldwide, we have over 80 networks and councils supporting and representing tens of thousands of women. Our annual International Women’s Day celebration hosted 236 client and employee programs in 177 cities and 89 countries in 2014 alone.

Citi Women also gives back to communities, from supporting female veterans and spouses of military families to helping women invest in women in economies all over the world.

Citizenship

Being a responsible global citizen means engaging in business conduct that is transparent, prudent and dependable. Our approach to citizenship is based on our commitment to responsible finance. We aim to be systemically responsible, ensuring that we only ever act in ways that are in the best interests of our clients and that our actions are always designed to create economic value.

Environment

We lead the industry when it comes to managing the environmental and social risks of our activities and in lessening our environmental impact. We’re investing USD50 billion in renewable energy and efficiency projects over the next 10 years – and as a graduate, you can expect to be involved.

Community

We’re also committed to inclusion. We put the full force of our businesses, resources, products and people into making sure that people and communities, who are often excluded from mainstream financial services, get the access they need.

The Citi Foundation

The Citi Foundation supports the economic empowerment and financial inclusion of people with low to moderate incomes in communities where Citi operates. The Foundation has four policy areas:

Through Financial Capability and Asset Building we increase the number of people who adopt positive financial behaviors and accumulate and preserve financial assets. Using Microfinance we increase the use of financial products, supplied by microfinance institutions, designed to improve and accelerate the financial inclusion of individuals. Enterprise Development helps to drive up the number of micro or small enterprises – each providing new income generation or employment opportunities for individuals. Finally, Youth Economic Opportunities works with young people aged 13-25, helping them generate income through high quality, living-wage jobs or entrepreneurship pursuits.

AAMIR TOLLER

Things happen very quickly at Citi. We have a culture that’s competitive, but in a healthy way. Everyone is motivated to do their best in whatever role they’re in.

MY JOURNEY

I began with Citi in Risk Management in the Consumer Bank before moving to HR where I did Talent Management. Afterwards I moved to the corporate bank where I was a product manager for commercial clients. I decided the consumer business suited my personality better and I wanted something sales-related, so I then moved back into the Consumer Bank in Wealth Management.

MY WORK

Wealth Management is where we look after high-net-worth retail bank customers and do financial planning for them. We recommend various investment, insurance and treasury products, as well as any services we think would help them. As a Relationship Manager, I’m the first point of contact for customers. If there’s anything they need, they come to me and then I try to find the best solution possible for them.

OPPORTUNITIES

The opportunities are endless at Citi. Everything is open if you’re willing to try. The program stretches you and puts you in positions that enable you to gain skills and exposure you might not get otherwise. Also, if you’re in a role and you want to try something new, it’s easy. You don’t have to look outside the bank because there are so many opportunities here.

MY ADVICE

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. When you’re new in a role people won’t expect you to know everything. So ask questions because it’s the fastest way to learn and get up to speed.

BAcc Business and Accounting, Singapore Management University

Relationship Manager, Wealth Management

I started off by doing an eight week internship in Hong Kong, where I was offered a place on the graduate program. The job was everything I wanted, however due to family issues I had a need to start in London. Citi was supportive and understanding and after meeting the business in London I was able to make the move.

MY AREA

I work in Emerging Markets FX Trading. We make markets in all EM currencies, allowing Citi’s clients to deal in all available Emerging markets currencies.

MY WORK

My job entails facilitating liquidity by quoting prices whenever our clients need them. As traders, we also manage the resulting risk that arise out of these transactions.

OPPORTUNITIES

I think the biggest opportunity at Citi is global mobility. We’re a truly global bank, so you can move to different offices if it’s the right fit. The fact that I’m in London is the perfect example. The bank is also really accepting of people from all backgrounds, so you get to interact with a diverse range of people.

MY ADVICE

During the interview stage, try to project yourself as someone who would be easy to work with for years to come. Getting selected isn’t just about market or industry knowledge.

I THINK THE BIGGEST OPPORTUNITY AT CITI IS GLOBAL MOBILITY. WE’RE A TRULY GLOBAL BANK, SO YOU CAN MOVE TO DIFFERENT OFFICES IF IT’S THE RIGHT FIT.

We’re not just looking for talent: we’re looking for the very best talent. So to help you stand out from the crowd, we’ve designed an application process that’ll give you every chance to sell yourself.

Register

Before you apply for any program, register your details first. Once your application is stored, you’ll be able to update it as many times as you wish before you make your final submission.

Application and interview

The interview process is not just about getting to know you. It’s your chance to get to know us, too. You’ll meet plenty of Citi people throughout the process and you should get a good insight into the culture we are proud of. We also want you to walk away with a firm idea of what the job entails so there are no surprises if you commence your career with us.

The precise application and interview process varies between programs. Each country opens vacancies according to its own academic calendar so please see individual vacancy details at oncampus.citi.com. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so ensure you apply as early as you can to stand the best chance of success.

You should consider this an overview. You’ll find everything you need to know about our recruitment and application process, including hints and useful tips, at our global graduate application hub. We only accept applications received through this website. Find out more at oncampus.citi.com

Meet us on campus

Although these events aren’t technically part of the process, they are a great opportunity to meet us face to face and find out what we’re looking for. It’s your chance to begin to build your network.

TOMORROW STARTS HERE.
