A Godly Father

Question of the Day: How can I be a godly father

in this sinful world we live in?

“The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth

had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his

heart was only evil all the time.” Genesis 6:5

It was a time of pleasure oriented, pleasure seeking, self-gratifying living with no thought

of the judgment of God.

“And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch

walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters.

Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because

God took him away.” Genesis 5:22-24

1. Enoch walked with God.

What does it mean to walk with God?

a. Walking with God means to go in the direction God is

going.

Seven Realities of God’s will according to Henry Blackaby:

-God is always at work around you.

-God pursues a continuing love relationship with you that is real and personal.

-God invites you to become involved with Him

in His work.

-God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer,

circumstances, and the church to reveal Himself, His purposes

and His ways.

-God's invitation for you to work with Him always leads you to a crisis of

belief that requires faith and action.

-You must make major adjustments in your life to join

God in what He is doing.

-You come to know God better by experience as you obey Him and He accomplishes His work

through you.

Too many times we tell God the direction we are going, and

then ask Him to bless us and walk with us in that direction.

Enoch learned the wisdom of walking with God in the

direction that HE determined was important.

That’s why the Bible states that Enoch walked with God and not that God walked with Enoch.

But HOW was he able to go in God’s direction instead of his

own?

b. Walking with God requires us to walk by faith in God.

Hebrews 11:5-6 “By faith Enoch was taken from this

life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God

had taken him away. Before he was taken he was

commended

as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone

who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he

rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

“By faith”

enough faith in God’s Spirit to trust that He knows where you

need to go.

enough faith in God’s Spirit to trust that He knows what you

need to do.

The ONLY way to be godly men in an ungodly world is to trust

the Spirit enough to walk in His direction.

2 Cor. 5:7 “walk by faith and not

by sight.”

c. God provides you everything you need to be

able to walk with Him.

2. Because Enoch walked with God he finished well.
