Thinking of Color

CIE Lab-A color model based on human perception developed by the CIE (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage) committee 1976.

“Commission of Lighting/Color”• L- Lightness Darkness• a- Green Red• b- Yellow Blue

Also consider Hue is what most of us think of when we think of "color." It is the

generic name used to describe a color, e.g., red, green, yellow, orange, etc.

Chroma- Saturation is how pure the color is. A fully saturated color is the truest version of that color. Primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) are "true", so they are also fully saturated.

Color Appearance as You See It - 45/0 Geometry

Sample

Lightsource

Observation 0°

Gloss(excluded)Illumination 45°

45/0 simulates normal viewing. It excludes all specular reflection (by virtue of geometry, not mechanical port design) and also captures texture effects due to its directional illumination.

We evaluate objects the same way e.g. when tilting a glossy sample to exclude gloss or using a Light booth for controlled visual assessment.

As a result, 45/0 geometry correlates better with visual assessment of color and color differences.

Features

• SP2000 Spectrometer (Primary component that “measures” color)- Replaces MC-90 in the DF100 = Better analysis of color

• 256 dual diode array provides phenomenal spectral resolution double the points of measurement of the DF100 (128 points)

• Measured within ¼ of an inch (6mm)

• Improved circuitry and performance

• USB or Serial Cable

Page 24: A Global Leader in Color Management Solutions October 10, 2014 Presentation to

24

Datacolor DC110 Spectrophotometer

• High definition measurement especially for highly saturated (dark) colors• Sheen measurement – This is factored into formulas and provides information to

operator as to which paint sheen to use.• Adjustable door for sample targeting• Measures textured samples reducing the “shadows” created by other types of

instruments

• DF100 measures 128 Points in ¼”• DC110 measures 256 Points in ¼”• High Definition= Better formulas
