*What is DataSpace?

*DataSpace is a third party add-on to ArcGIS Desktop

*Allows the user to arrange data without actually moving or changing the data at all

*DataSpace does this by creating a pointer to the data; this pointer is what is actually being moved within the DataSpace application

*How do I get DataSpace?

*Automatically installed with ArcGIS Desktop

*Works with ArcGIS 10.x

*Using ArcGIS floating license

*Access DataSpace from ArcMap

To bring more layers in your “GIS Libraries” click on Server>Configure and then check off the boxes for the libraries you wish to access.

You may not have permission to access all of them. That is set by the data stewards of those libraries.

Click OK.

*Adding data elements to DataSpace

*Open ArcGIS Desktop, as normal

*Click DataSpace icon in the toolbar to open DataSpace window

*Click the add data button*Navigate to desired data

*Click the “Add” button

*Drag layer from Table of Contents, drop in DataSpace window

*Create new Root Folder*Click File->New Root Folder

*Enter name for Folder, Click “OK”

*Right click folder to place data element in

*Right click on data element, Click “Copy”

*Right click on folder to place data element in

*Create new server node*Create folder on file share server

*Copy data to file share

*Follow steps in “Create new Root Folder”

*Follow steps in “Adding data elements to DataSpace”

*Right click on root folder, Click “Export to DataSpace XML”

*Navigate to the Folder created in step one

*Name the file “GIS.XML”

*Click “Save”

*Close and reopen DataSpace

Right click on root folder, Click “Export to DataSpace XML”

*DataSpace icon cannot be found on toolbars
