First Visit inside the STBD Azipod on September 10th 2015.
The entrance into the XO Azipod is different from what we used to on the Vista
and Signature class vessels.
The below procedure will explain on how to safely enter the Azipods.
The Azipod entrance is in the middle of the Azipod, from there you will go down
and have the ability to either go the Drive or NON‐drive end of the Azipod.
Drive‐end is the propeller side of the Azipod and is facing FWD.
NON drive‐end is facing AFT.
The above shown blue print is showing the main entrance into the middle part of the Azipod.
Please follow the following steps in in order to enter the Azipod in a safe matter.
1. Ensure that relevant Azipod has been correctly isolated in accordance with
the correct available Azipod isolation procedure.
2. Ensure that relevant Azipod entrance | confined space entrée documents
have been prepared and signed.
3. Confirm that it is safe to enter the Relevant Azipod.

Platforms inside the Azipods (See reference on page 14)
It is important to know that the silver colored hinged platforms which are installed above the
stator of the Azipod are stowed in open position during normal Azipod configuration.
This is important for the flow of cooling inside the Azipods.
See below shown series of photos.
So basically you need to physically close the hinged platform when you are going down into the
Azipod in order to create a safe working situation in order to access the drive‐end or non‐drive
end of the Azipod (See below).
Platform closed.
Platform open.
View from above with the silver colored platforms latched
in open position; this is the normal situation during sailing
It is important to stow the hinged platforms in the open
position when the work inside the Azipod has been
completed in order to optimize the 100% flow of cooling.
DO NOT FORGET!!!!
