Description:

Over the course of several class periods, the students will create a graphic organizer and write a Friday letter using the software Kidspiration.

Objectives:

Students will create a graphic organizer using Kidspiration and then publish their Friday Letter that includes all 5 parts of a friendly letter and consists of at least 8 sentences.

Standards: Standard 4.0 Writing Indicators: Compose texts using the prewriting and drafting strategies

of effective writers and speakers. Compose oral, written, and visual presentations that express

personal ideas, inform, and persuade. Objectives: Generate ideas and topics and make a plan before writing Write to express personal ideas using a variety of forms,

such as journals, narratives, letters, and reports.

Materials Needed:

Assignment Rubric Kidspiration software Computers

Procedures:

Day 1 (Thursday) In class Introduce students to their assignment using the assignment rubric. Model how to:

open a new kidspiration document. change graphic organizer pictures. Add text Group objects

In lab Students will work on selecting and inserting graphic organizer

pictures. Students will write a title for each picture. Students will group objects Students will save their projects (namefridayletter).

Procedures:

Day 2(Friday) In class Review skills from previous day. Model for students:

How to open an existing Kidspiration document. How to switch from organizer mode to writing mode. Write sentences. How to publish to a word document and then format

like a letter In lab Students will work on writing their Friday letter. Students will print their published Kidspiration project.

Closure:

Have students share some of their organizers.

My special education students would just be required to find pictures and write labels to represent their thoughts.

closing This week in school: I learned a lot of new and interesting things in school this week. Math In math, we learned about measuring things. Mrs.Keller read us a story about a king giving his daughter a horse. Language Arts This week in language arts, we read a lot of poems. My favorite poem was Homework ! Oh, Homework! Writing We learned how to write a poem this week. I wrote my poem about my brother. Science In science, our tadpoles finally got 4 legs. I know they will be losing their tail anyday now. closing I had a fantastic week in school. I can't believe it is almost over!

I learned a lot of new and interesting things in school this week. In math, we learned about measuring things. Mrs.Keller read us a story about a king giving his daughter a horse. This week in language arts, we read a lot of poems. My favorite poem was Homework! Oh, Homework! We learned how to write a poem this week. I wrote my poem about my brother. In science, our tadpoles finally got 4 legs. I know they will be losing their tail any day now. I had a fantastic week in school. I can't believe it is almost over! Love, Larissa
