A FRAMEWORK FOR 24/7 DAVIDIC INTERCESSORY WORSHIP
IHOP in Practice
Since 1999
Since September 1999, the International House of Prayer located in Kansas City, MO has aggressively pursued 24/7 intercessory worship– 1,500 full time staff – mostly young people, man the
prayer room. In addition to staff, the prayer room averages 100 intercessors each hour
– IHOP alone has contributed just short of 10 million hours of intercession to the bowls of Rev 5:8
– Using Preston’s 4 minute a day = 29,200 hours
What They Do
• Divide the week into 84 two hour segments or “watches”
• During each watch, an intercessor, several singers and supporting musicians are present
• The intercessor brings a portion of scripture and prays according to the content of that scripture. Themes are preplanned
• The singers create a spontaneous song that they sing to the Lord based on the prayer
What They Do – part 2
• The musicians provide supporting melodies – which in themselves are also spontaneously generated
• The intercession and song are antiphonal in style: first intercession, then the song and then intercession again
• Singers energize the intercessor and the intercessor energizes the singers
What They Do – part 3• The pattern repeats itself throughout the
watch • Transitions from one watch to another are
almost imperceptible • Just prior to the finish of one watch, a new set
of ministers sets up: intercessor, singers and musicians
• The first team leaves the stage as the second team takes over
