The ETELM Company is located in the technological area of Courtaboeuf (PARIS), and specializes in

private radio communication infrastructure systems.

With dynamic and perennial teams, the strategy of ETELM is now oriented towards the manufacturing

and installation of TETRA radio networks.

This change is based on an accurate knowledge of the PMR market acquired over the last 28 years.

ETELM offers complete mastery of its expertise for design, development, manufacture, integration

and testing, sales and deployment of systems.

The possibilities of the standard combined with an extremely flexible architecture allow innumerable

configurations which make TETRA available to all budgets, without any limits to future evolutions.

ETELM has ISO 9001 V2000 certification and has significant technical resources, both for

development and the manufacture and testing of units (software development platforms, equipment

measurement benches, CEM authorisations, etc).

All of ETELM’s equipment is integrally designed, industrialized and sold with a constant concern for

creating modular and evolutive architecture without revising the existing architecture.

Their performance and reliability have been tested by various categories of users.

ETELM has signed the TETRA MoU charter, by which it undertakes to promote and respect the

standard without introducing any specific components into the standard equipment( components which

are specific to a network are put into independent PCs connected to the network).

DECENTRALIZED ARCHITECTURE

ETELM has selected a decentralized architecture, which is organized as follow:

A complete network consist of sub-networks connected to each other; each sub-

network is made up of base station (BS) connected in a star around a switch (SW),

the switch itself being connected to peripheral equipment (Dispatching, voice and

data, PABX, Administration console…) – thus, a sub-network is autonomous, and it

may cover a whole town or region with several radio sites. Each sub-network has it

own data bases and its own supervision.

STRUCTURAL CHOICES

The evolution from analogic technology to

digital technology (TETRA) in the years 2000 in

the sector of professional radio communication

has modified a well established industrial order.

By preparing itself since 1995 for this change

with the acquisition of the mastery of a

complex technology, ETELM became the

referenced supplier, particularly in the world of

transport, Utilities, Oil&Gas and public safety.

This sudden growth has been controlled, and is

continuing with international contracts all over

the world.

STRUCTURAL CHOICES

ETELM has working methods which are based upon the respect of initial choices, in particular:

The systematic use of European standard

The systematic use of standard interfaces

The systematic use of Commercial On The Shelf products (PC under Windows)

Free distribution of the interface protocol with external IP applications

INTEROPERABILITY

ETELM takes care to offer to its customers the characteristics if interoperability with terminals

suitable for making installations perennial with:

Technical, commercial and financial independence from terminals manufacturers

A guarantee that there are many procurement sources

A guarantee of interoperability with laboratory and fields tests

A guarantee to be able to receive several brands of terminals on the same network

The fixed links used in the networks play a major role, in particular for operating cost.

ETELM offers a set of technical solutions which can provide the greatest flexibility on this

matter.

Thus, each link between the switch and a radio site can be programmed with a G703, V11,

or IP interface without modifying the equipment.

In the G703 version, the equipment includes multiplexers of the ‘drop and insert’ type,

programmable from all the types of architectures required.

The links to central application equipment (audio dispatching, data dispatching,

message systems, recording…) are all of the IP type.

The voice on IP technology used allows all the communications to be processed

systematically in conference mode (a group of operating posts forming a dispatching

centre).

The supply of equipment is a homogeneous and compatible family; each units is modular and each

extension is made either by the addition of new equipment or by the addition of boards which can

be slotted directly into the existing equipment. The number of sub assemblies is reduced to the

minimum.

(Re-use of the same modules in various of equipment). These dispositions alone guarantee simple

evolution to the most detailed requirements.

ACCESSORIESACCESSORIESACCESSORIESACCESSORIES

AUTOMATIC SINGLE SITE SINGLE CARRIER RELAY (TBSG)

A radio infrastructure unit that is fully compatible with the TETRA standard whose mode

of operation is identical to that of the automatic relays which are widespread in analogic

technology.

BASE STATION (TBS20)

The TBS11 single carrier base station works equally well with dedicated links and IP. It

is equipped with a local and remote extension junction to other aquipment.

The TBS11 is fully compatible with TRA2M (automatic relay) and TBS10 (previous version

of the base station).

SWITCH (TSW10)

The TSW10 unit is the nodal centre of the TETRA network. It is in charge of the

management and interfacing of the base stations, the dispatching network and the

telephone equipment. Each switch takes charge of up to 32 base stations, whatever the

distribution of these stations over the various radio sites. It is the nerve centre of the

network, and it can be fully backed up by automatic switching in use, which is particularly

useful for software and hardware breakdowns.

ADMINISTRATION CONSOLE (TSC10)

The console of administration is the point of access to the network for:

Calibrating the network

Managing the subscribers

Real time maintenance

Historic

FIBER OPTIC REPEATER AND HERTZIEN REPEATER (TOR/TAR)

The basic or secured fibre optic repeater enables to extension of radio cover to

confined surroundings such as tunnels, industrial building and underground premises.

The hertzian repeater enables one off zones of shadow to be dealt with. Both units

may be combined for special applications.

APPLICATIONSAPPLICATIONSAPPLICATIONSAPPLICATIONS

Etelm makes every effort transmission systems which are very open so that they can receive

varied applications; with this in mind, the transmission system has to be transparent between

a standard on board interface (PEI junction) and a centralized interface that is a current

and open as possible. Thus, the use of the network for an application does not require any

licences. The specifications of the centralized interface are publicly distributed, and they

enable computer developments without any particular knowledge of the TETRA technology.
