Nice was founded in the North-East of Italy, a vast metropolitan area with over 6,000,000 inhabitants, where industry and country, cement and greenery coexist, giving birth to 500,000 activities of various dimensions which, together, form a rich creative context of excellence in the fields of fashion, furniture and technology.

This is where Nice grew up and developed, being able to draw on the infinite resources of an area which, until half a century ago, was still almost entirely agricultural and where the Headquarters is located respecting the area landscape, continuously reflected in the glazed surfaces of the building.

Another homage to the area origins is the cultivation surrounding the Headquarters, which is different each year: barley, sunflowers, ...

Lauro Buoro founded Nice S.r.l.; the company created electronic products, remote controls and automation accessories for gates and garage doors, proposing to the home automation sector a new way to produce, compete and communicate.

In the early 90’s the market for industrial goods was characterised by a rather elementary offer, presenting products through anonymous communication, concentrating exclusively on functional characteristics (still very basic).

Nice increased its offer, putting the electronic and electro- mechanical products side by side to offer the market a complete automated solution of gates and garage doors.

The Nice business idea proposed integrated automated systems, created not to be cumbersome, but easy to use and quick to install, functionally, friendly for both the implant project designer, the installer and the final user.Nice initiated a sale policy that involved seeking out distributors in different foreign Countries and created a network of dealers and distributors in practically all the Italian provinces.

In 1995, Nice opened its first sales branch in France, which, at the time, was the second most important market after Italy.

Enlargement of products range

Nice expanded its range by the takeover of a company producing automation systems for awnings, rolling shutters and solar screens, becoming in this way one of the few companies in the world able to offer a complete range of integrated automation systems for any kind of residential and industrial building, controlled by only one transmitter.

Nice won over new market segments, acquiring better visibility towards the final customer.

D.I.Y. market penetration

Nice strengthened its distribution network and entered D.I.Y. market with Mhouse.

Nice created a new line for D.I.Y.

Acquisitions

Nice S.p.A. completed the 100% acquisition of Silentron S.p.A., one of the leading companies in Italy in the production of wireless alarm systems.

Through the acquisition of a majority stake in the German MC Menke GmbH, Nice got the control of the operating subsidiary Mtec GmbH, which produces and distributes garage door and rolling shutter automation systems for industrial and residential use.

Before

Transmitters were cumbersome, heavy to carry around: people would rather hide them, keeping them inside the car.

With Nice

With Nice, transmitters become objects to show: functional, powerful but miniaturized and elegant.

1993Nice NRCWireless = no waste of time, no masonry

Before

Automation systems required a remote control, but the connection of the devices also needed a wire connection, sometimes invasive and expensive.

With Nice

The massive application of wireless technology with NRC systems (Nice Radio Connection) avoids the cost and the inconvenience of unsightly wiring ducts for control wires.

Nice NRC makes the installation process much easier and convenient especially for already existing buildings, which are the vast majority; it has allowed to eliminate any hindrance to the diffusion of automation and alarm systems.



1995Handy design: effortless and with only one hand

Before

When there was no power supply, manually activating an automated gate meant unlocking the mechanism with a huge monkey wrench, usually placed somewhere in the house, inserting it in a specific locked cabinet and making a lot of effort in the process.

With Nice

In its first generation of motors, Nice had already conceived unlocking mechanisms made of simple “Viro” keys, easy to activate with only one hand.

This meant that there would no longer be any waiting under the rain, physical effort, or painstaking research for a key which could not be found while needing to get into the house with your hands full of shopping bags or while carrying a baby.



2003BUS systems: much more simplicity

Before

The advantages of the two-wire BUS system were known for a long time in other sectors, but no one had been able to develop this technology - which required the passage of alimentation and all the information necessary to the devices through just two wires - in order to use it on home automation products.

With Nice

In 2003 Nice launched the BlueBUS and Mhouse ECSBUS systems on the market, which changed the concept of automation by making installation really easy and quick: nothing but two wires now connect all the system devices, which can be amplified later with the same simplicity.

The absence of polarity and clamps, which can be identified thanks to the use of different colours and serigraphies, make the connection of the system even easier and really error-free.



2003Even easier: Mhouse

Before

In the mega store distribution centres, those keen on D.I.Y. could choose between low-profile ranges and others which put various obsolete products together, characterised by old logic and therefore making difficult their installation by the occasional user.

With Nice

Mhouse was built, a brand new range conceived around the ECSBUS system which, with only two wires, lets you connect all the accessory devices.

The quality of the project and materials, the functional design and the easy installation and use have made Mhouse, in a short period of time, a reference brand within the sector.



2005 MAP Technology: choice and rationality

Before

Choosing among a constantly available wide range of products avoiding a huge useless storage was not possible.

With Nice

MAP (Modular AssemblingProduct) is an innovative technology that supersedes the concept of the finished product, creating a wide range of personalised products through the assembly of complimentary and interchangeable parts.

Nice goes beyond the idea of finished products, introducing the concept of modularity: a wide product range always available, with no problem of warehouse management.



2007 Automation for everybody: Moovo

Before

The small segment of the market dedicated to the D.I.Y. was exclusively made up of poor quality products, with limited performance and reliability, which were proposed by brands difficult to trace on the market and which were poorly assisted. It was constant dealing with products difficult to install and consequently inapt for the referred market.

With Nice

Moovo is Nice answer to the market request for an economical and, at the same time, reliable product. The simplification of the functions has permitted Nice to supply a complete range of products apt for every domestic need without any compromise. Moovo has invented a new market segment which didn’t exist.



2007Opera marks the future of the automation

Before

There was simply nothing similar.

With Nice

The innovative system Nice Opera makes the work for the installer easier thanks to the remote control of any automation system via PC and PDA, while customers can manage home automation via mobile or Smartphone. The advantage of Nice Opera is the remote assistance. No more need for on-site inspections thanks to the remote diagnostics for fast and accurate fault detection and the practical and intuitive modifications to the settings of all systems.



2008Solar power. Nice, energy in nature

Before

Before installing automated systems it was necessary to calculate the manual costs of digging, which were even more unadvisable when, for example, the gates were not so close to the house.

With Nice

Solar power, massively introduced by Nice even with its Mhouse and Moovo brands, allows to install automation even far away from any electrical network.

Wireless technology, continual functioning and energy-saving point out new possible applications even where, till sometime ago, they were considered impossible.

An ecological and extremely intelligent system which allows the final user to make a notable economic saving.



2009NiceHome System, security combines with automation

Before

Automation and alarm systems were worlds apart, with integration difficulties and very limited integrated functions.

With Nice

The NiceHome System combines Nice control devices simplicity and completeness with the professionalism of the alarm systems the group companies have developed according to their 30-year experience. Apart from the alarm systems, the user can directly manage up to 16 controls for automation, illumination and electrical loads.Everything with a 100% wireless solution: maximum safety with maximum ease.



2010The Nice Era Revolution

To offer a even more complete and competitive range of integrated systems for the home, in 2010 Nice passed another challenge: offering the world of home automation a completely renewed line of latest generation products.

Nice F.e.e.l. (For everyone everywhere liberty) is a project created by Nice to promote and develop activities which give people with motor difficulties greater freedom in movement and more individual autonomy.

Nice has chosen, under the nameNice F.e.e.l., to promote an organisational initiative from external institutions andto develop projects inside the companywhich aim to better the lives of peoplewith motor difficulties, such as the elderly and the disabled.

The leading decision is to offer a user-friendly automated system for anyone, especially for those in need.


Nice promotes initiatives which tend to awaken public opinion about socially relevant issues: the “Nice F.e.e.l.” project conjugates the spirit and energy which continually run through Nice offices. This project has been developed in collaboration with local Health Authority (A.U.l.s.s. n.9 - Treviso) and it’s divided in two initiatives: “Qualcosa di Diverso” (“Something Different”) and “Atrecentosessantagradi” (“At three hundred and sixty degrees”).




Wurbs S.r.l., the studio which develops all Nice marketing projects, communication and design, has co-ordinated a Master at Padua‘s School of Design dedicated to the development of automation interfaces for people with permanent or temporary disabilities.


Effective Marketing and Communication

Unconventional communication focused on Nice philosophy and strength. Mainly through innovative and detailed catalogues, instructions, web sites, advertising in specialised magazines and participation to national and international trade fairs, on-site training, all associated with effective headlines, memorable product names, visible packaging, Nice “branded” products.

Each contact can become a new client! This is why Nice offers an increasing range of promotional tools to use in sales outlets, at trade fairs or meetings, attracting the attention of the client, directing them to a specific product while giving an immediate and distinctive image to the entire Nice product range.

The new Headquarters, with just over 12,000 m2 of storage space and 7,000 m2 of offices, has been designed to create a new way of experiencing the workplace: bright and airy open-space offices to stimulate communication and encourage teamwork.

A new building to meet the needs of an ever-growing company; more comfortable with a bar, a restaurant, a relax area, a well-equipped gymnasium, a Turkish bath and a sauna, where one can really unwind.

The frame of the warehouse reminds one of a hangar, while the part of the building housing the offices, with its unmistakable references to the lines of an aircraft or of a ship’s overturned keel (depending on how you look at it), conjures up the idea of a dynamic, leadership-oriented firm.

Colour is another distinctive feature of the architecture: at nightfall, the natural tones of the water and the barley are replaced by the artificial hues of the lights that illuminate the building’s contours until dawn.The same colour shades form a link between the outer façade and the interiors. Inside, the endless horizon of glass and steel, enjoyable from anywhere in the building.

2007 - Nice5Nice has created an area of 6,000 m2 which will be dedicated to training and to which clients, technicians, installers and commercial people can learn from close up the entire range of Nice products, through practical and multimedial demonstrations.

2003 - Nice3Not far from the head office in Oderzo, “Nice3”, the centralized warehouse of the group, developed in over 11,000 m².

2000 - Nice2The original Nice head office triples its surface through the construction, next to “Nice1”, of the new building “Nice2”.

1995 - Nice1Nice built in Oderzo (Treviso) its first settlement, “Nice1”, having a surface of 2,000 m².

Nice2Nice Centre for Technology

Nice2 is the present head office of the Research and Development department.

The main feature of Nice is based on its R&D laboratory, specially the one where tests on products are made, the only one in this branch which has a surface of 1,000 square meters and which can count on the most advanced technological instruments.

The aim of this investment is to grant more and more safety, quality and reliability of products. Through its advanced laboratory, Nice carefully tests and controls its products every day, in order to grant safety, quality, reliability and durability.



Nice laboratories correspond to the ISO 9001 certification, known all over the world for the management of quality, besides of being in accordance with the Norm EN 17025 establishing the necessary features for test laboratories.

The LCIE has recognized the Nice laboratoryin compliance with the SMT (Supervised Manufacturer’s Testing) procedure, within the NF certification.

All Nice products, CE certified, comply with the relevant European Directives and the international regulations.



In the frame of the increasingly need for renewal and changing values in sustainability, Nice contributes defining new scenarios through the promotion of eco-compatible design.

During the famous Milan design weekat the Interni Mutant Architecture & Design exhibition, in 2011 Nice presented Plasteroid, a planet, the new dreamed world to which land through a deep meditation and inner consciousness on the immediate respect for and return to Nature.

The lighting sculpture is made of 200 recycled polycarbonate scales.

The collaboration between Nice and Jacopo Foggini during the FuoriSalone® in Milan thus continued after the previous positive exhibitions:

In 2010 at the Interni Think Tank event Nice showed Golden Fleece, a fleece made of methacrylate, a regenerated materialwhich allows to save energy up to 70%.

In 2010 with the “Nice Arts” project Nice was ranked among the top in excellence representing Italy at the Shanghai Universal Exhibition.

In 2008 at the Interni Green Energy Design Nice presented Ofigea, a 55 meters-long lighting snake made of methacrylate.

Both the sculptures now are placedat the Nice Headquarters to underline the need for a continuous commitment towards environment, already embraced by the company through its range of solar powered automation systems and products ideal to increase the thermal efficiency of the house.
