Curriculum Home Learning Grid (Y5)-Japan Please write the date and WALT in your book and complete each day. There are links to games/videos that might support both parents and children. Some of these activities may need adult support however other tasks can be completed independently. Please make a comment on how much your child was supported in each activity. Monday 20 th April-Art WALT: use drawing techniques to recreate ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ Activity: Look up the artist Hokusai ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ and you will see his most famous piece of artwork. Recreate this piece of artwork but you can add or change parts to your own style. Look carefully at the shape, lines, patterns. Start with lightly drawing your picture on plain paper and then either use coloured pencils, pens, paint or any other artistic materials to create your picture. You can do this in the form of a collage if you wish. Activity: In Japanese culture, the koi carp is a highly respected and very symbolic fish that is closely tied to the country's national identity. The koi carp is thought to be a symbol of luck, prosperity, and good fortune within Japan . The name “koi ” itself is Japanese and simply means “carp ” in the Japanese language. Today you are going to make your own flying carp lantern. Follow the link below to see how to make one. It says use tissue paper but you can use paper and colour it in instead. Hang it up once it is created to see it fly. Activity: Some of you may have explored with the tricky task of origami already from last week’s English home learning. You can use the link below or research a specific animal or object to make. Have a go at following the steps to make different ones. Challenge a family member to a race to see who can create one of them quicker and let me know who wins. If these are too easy find some trickier origami patterns to follow. Resources needed: paper, coloured pens/pencils, ruler Thursday 23 rd April-Art WALT: use colours to create cherry blossom artwork. Activity: Cherry Blossoms are another symbol that link to Japan. Look at the images below and create your own picture involving cherry blossoms. This can be using a Japanese landscape to copy and add cherry blossoms or a more abstract idea. Think about the colours to use and whether you want the cherry blossoms to stand out or blend in with the picture.
