CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
You, O Lord, have called us to enter into your gates with thanksgiving, yet how often we
grumble and complain. You have blessed us in many aspects of our lives yet so often, we
lack a basic gratitude for all that is wonderful in creation and in life. Restore us to joy
through worship, to grace through living, and to love in all of our relationships. Remind us
in all of our living of the tremendous, heart warming gift of your Son, Jesus Christ, Our Lord
and Redeemer. It is in His name that we ask this, (Silence for personal confession)

Change my heart, O God, make it ever true. Change my heart, O God, may I be like you. You
are the Potter, I am the clay; mold me and make me, this is what I pray. Change my heart, O
God, make it ever true. Change my heart, O God, may I be like you.

CALL OF RESPONSE “But There Are Many “Y’s” In Stewardship” Jack Farrow
PRAYER OF RESPONSE Dear Heavenly Father, my church is composed of people like me; I help make it what it is. It will be
friendly, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work, if I work. It will make
generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring other people into its worship and
fellowship, if I invite and bring them. It will be a church of outreach, charity, grace and love, of
fearlessness and faith, and a church with the spirit of Jesus, if I, who make it what it is, am filled with
these same things. Therefore, with Your help, O God, I shall dedicate myself to the task of being all
things that I want my church to be. Amen.

Session News Introducing Rev. Anne Schaefer as Interim Pastor
Rev. Anne Schaefer has accepted a contract to serve as Interim Pastor / Head of Staff at First Presbyterian Church Plymouth, effective December 1, 2016. For the past two years, Anne Schaefer has been serving as Interim Pastor / Head of Staff of Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church in Livonia, MI. Anne’s undergraduate work was completed at Albion College. She received her M. Divinity degree from McCormick Seminary in 1983. In addition, Anne has completed graduate studies in clinical psychology. She is a licensed social worker (MSW) for the State of Michigan. Anne describes herself as seeking to learn the culture of the church and to work with and build on that. She affirms that she believes in Jesus Christ as her savior and that she has a personal relationship with God through Him. She affirms, too, that the church has a responsibility to uphold and model strong, wholesome values while sharing the love, forgiveness and grace of God. As well, she attests that “A church can only be healthy when it recognizes Christ as the one and only motivation for all that it does”. Anne writes, “My style of preaching is one in which I present thoughts on God’s word to people and then hopefully send them home to allow those thoughts to incubate to a place where they actually change people’s lives.” Family involvement is very important to her; she likes to bring families to church together. She loves teaching Bible study! Anne and her husband have two grown daughters; they live in Orchard Lake, Michigan.
Welcome to Consecration Sunday: We Are a Family of Faith Today, during worship, we have the opportunity to share our gifts to promote spiritual growth through giving while sustaining and growing our church’s ministry. During the service, you are invited to complete 2017 financial commitment cards as an act of worship. Completing an Estimate of Giving Card is voluntary and completely confidential. We will provide time and directions about how to complete and submit your card, if you choose to do it today. You may also submit it to the church office at your convenience. After each service today, you are warmly invited to join with other family members in a celebration to be held in the narthex. Delicious refreshments (desserts, coffee, cider) will be served. Please join your fellow FPCP family members for this time of fellowship! You’ll also enjoy music by young musicians from the Livonia Youth Symphony Orchestra, who have joined us today to enrich our fellowship time. We thank them for joining us and invite you to enjoy their talents as you join the celebration. Tina Creguer, Martha Boeve, Jack Farrow, and Orlean Heidel Stewardship Committee

BAKE SALE THANK YOU! The Launch Confirmation Class thanks everyone who supported the Bake Sale last Sunday! Your generosity was overwhelming ... we raised $850 to purchase food for Malawian families who experienced such severe drought that they are without food until the next harvest in March/April of 2017. The situation is dire as reported by Doug Kee who has been in Malawi since late August. A $20 bag of maize provides a family of 6 with enough food for one month. Your generosity will make a difference in the lives of 42.5 families over the next month. May God bless your faithful response! With much gratitude from, 2016-17 Launch Confirmation Class

Local Mission FPCP is working more closely with our Presbytery and its program for foster children. Our prayer ministry can help by praying for a special child in foster care. This month we are praying for 16 year old Abbi Lynn. Abbi has a lot of energy and is always up for a new adventure. Her exploits might have her becoming a book author, which she wants to do as an adult. She loves the outdoors. And she wants others to know, "I have a good sense of humor, love music and dancing and just want to find a forever family," which is her ultimate adventure. More info on Abbi is at mare.org. If you are interested in helping with our foster care projects, please call Peggy at 734.953.1044.
Community Dinner at Second Mile Center
The Local Mission Committee is looking for volunteers willing to help serve a community dinner at Second Mile Center on Monday, October 24. We will meet at the church around 4:00 pm to carpool to SMC. We plan on returning to the church around 8:00 pm. Can’t make it on October 24 but would still like to help? We need volunteers to provide 2 dozen cookies or brownies (homemade or store bought; no nuts, please!). Baked goods would need to be delivered to the church no later than noon on October 24. Thank you for supporting this special ministry!
Look for the sign-up sheet on the Local Mission bulletin board.
Dear families, The Local Mission Committee of FPCP was pleased to welcome Ruth Azar and the children of the Sign Mime Group to our church on Sunday, September 25. We were so honored to have Ruth preach and the children perform at each of the three services on that day. In addition to the special financial collection we started on September 25, we want to continue our support of the after-school activities of the SMC by collecting games, puzzles, toys and
coloring books that your family no longer needs. Please consider working with your children to share unused activities with the children at the SMC. You can bring them to church at any time. There is a container for them in the collection area in the lower level. Thank you for your support of this wonderful and important Center for Detroit families.

KIDS HOPE USA “No matter how hard you try, you cannot make a
miracle happen for yourself. But you can put yourself in position to help a miracle happen for
someone else.” David Staal, Show UP
Kids Hope USA is an early childhood intervention program for at-risk children. Our church began this program in the fall last year and 20 children in our community experienced a powerful truth in their lives. That they matter. Close your eyes and imagine the power of that truth for a child whose life experiences or circumstances have kept them from achieving academic or social success. As a mentor you have this ability to change the life of a child through this powerful truth. Our church’s program is inviting you to consider joining KHUSA. The cost is one hour a week with one child for one academic year. One. Show one child that they matter. To learn more, please email Susan Johnson, Director Elementary Program, at [email protected] or Marie McCubbrey, Director Middle School Program, at [email protected] (248-421-4442)
