Window Dressing Competition and Treasure Hunt Look out for displays in the local shops. To mark the 50th Anniversary of the release of the Beatles’ iconic Sergeant Pepper album, this year’s theme is The Beatles, 1960s and flower power – plenty of scope for our imaginative shopkeepers. For the treasure hunt, we’ve been busy knitting and crocheting items with a Beatles/1960s theme. These are hidden in the window of participating shops. Pick up a leaflet from New Oriel Hall.

Choirs by FireTraditional toe-tapping choral opening to the festival, featuring Minuendos, Humbugs, KES Senior Choir, KES 24 and the mighty Walcot State Choir.Enjoy hot and cold food, including delicious homemade cakes, and drinks from the pop-up café. A selection of wines, beers and cider will be on offer from the festival’s own bar.

Speakeasy Spoken Word FestivalSpectacular! Two fabulous guests - Liv Torc and Jem Roberts, open mic spots available on the night (no actual mic though) so come along to share a plentiful poem, short story, tall tale or petit paragraph! Doors open at 8pm.

Valley Schools’ art exhibitionTaking this year’s festival theme of the 1960s, St Mark’s School have organised an art competition for all pupils in the Valley Schools to explore this era through art and create their own unique sixties inspired artwork. Through workshops and online resources, pupils discov-ered one of the most significant decades for art and new art movements. Their challenge was to create a piece of 2D art history for the 21st century. Resources and entry forms can be downloaded from www.st-marks.org.uk.

Ramshackle Orchestra – A Tribute to Nina Trott The multi-generational, multi-instrumental Ramshackle Orchestra was created by violin teacher and arranger Nina Trott, who sadly died last year. It has an eclectic repertoire of Celtic folk, gypsy tunes, Klezmer laments, and airs from as far as Hungary and Transylvania.

Gardens open 10.30am to 5pm unless otherwise stated
A. Gardenalia, London Road (9am-5.30pm) Richard Asbury’s delightfully eccentric shop is a haven of green thinking. Gardenalia
has an eclectic mix of antique and contemporary garden ornaments, furniture, accessories and unusual gifts. Look out for the some special Festival offers.
B. Community Garden, Alice Park Created out of wasteland by volunteers, this community garden has attracted a lot of
interest around Bath. See the new green oak timber shelter, wildlife pond and plans for growing and activities. Cakes, apple juice & plants for sale.
C. Lambridge House, London Road - Teas served. This large, varied garden which runs from the road to the river, is reputed to have one of
the largest tulip trees in Britain. It’s a blossoming garden at this time of year, with apple, pear, damson, wisteria and magnolia showing their colours.
D. The Ferns and Garden Cottage, Deadmill Lane Several garden rooms including tulips, aquilegia, apple blossom next to a nice old
house. The crab apple orchard and mixed woodland sloping down to the Lam Brook is one of Larkhall’s best kept secrets. Teas served 10.30am-5pm.
E. 12 Hill View Road - access by steps only A small, all year round garden divided with structural planting into three separate areas:
shaded evergreen garden with pond; lawn and perennial garden; and ornamental grass area with pond and birch trees. Plants include amelanchier, ornamental cherry, beech, ferns, euphorbia, grasses and alliums.
F. Larkhall Allotments More than 100 plot-holders grow fruit, veg and flowers among cute sheds and
outhouses. A cornucopia of production.
G. 3 Elmhurst, St Saviour’s Road A long garden sloping down to the Lam Brook with solanum, holly, acer and some fine
blossoming fruit trees including mulberry, pear and apple.
H. 4 Larkhall Place– Access up steps opposite Co-op A very lovely garden including a veg plot and two small ponds created to attract wildlife. Metal hoops made by local craftsman Richard Cooper support the climbers.
I. Dafford Street - A remarkable row of front gardens with a range of attractive planting.
J. 5 Swainswick Gardens Best Sustainable Garden in the Curo Housing Association Awards, this garden has plenty of plants to encourage wildlife to thrive, as well as bamboo and New Zealand flax.

Football Match - Festival favourite returns again this year. Dads of St Saviour’s Schools vs the managers of Larkhall Athletic Youth Teams will once again contest the trophy that has resided with the Managers for the past three years.

Soap-box DerbyHandmade carts to race from Bladuds Head to Larkhall Square. Anything from a wheelbarrow to your own hand-built creation. Must be powered by adults and crewed by at least one child. The carts will race up Otago Terrace, then down the final leg into Larkhall Square. The award ceremony will be on the Village Green, where the carts will be lined up for your admiration.With thanks to Epoch Wealth Management

Welcome to Larkhall Festival 2017
This year will be the 9th Larkhall Festival. Each year we try to introduce something new, this year we have gone bigger than ever, with the first Larkhall Soap-box Derby. The carts will assemble outside the Bladud’s Head on Sunday 30th April before racing down to the ‘Village Green’. We have closed the road especially for this event. Please come along and support your friends and neighbours.
As usual the Festival will involve the talents of the people of Larkhall with music, song, art, crafts, food, flowers, poetry, sports.
Raffle tickets will be on sale throughout the weekend. Proceeds will ensure we can put on an extra special 10th Anniversary Festival next year.
