Today’s Goal:
To learn about water scarcity on a global scale. Also, to learn that there is a finite amount of water on earth and that water is essential for survival.

Every person, animal and plant needs usable fresh water to live!

There are three main sources of fresh water:
1. Ice Caps2. Ground Water3. Surface Water

Ice Caps (or Glaciers) are not easily available for our needs.

Ground Water (or Aquifers) is water that is stored under the earth.

Surface Water is water you can see on the surface of the earth.
(for example: creeks, rivers, lakes, reservoirs)

Kentucky receives about 40 – 50 inches of rainfall
(or fresh water) each year.

Kentucky also has many lakes, rivers,
and aquifers.

Water scarcity means there are more demands and uses for the regional water than there is supply

Water is an essential natural resource.
(Our bodies are made up of approximately 60% water)

You need about 2/3 of a gallon (or about 5½ cups) of water EVERY DAY to stay healthy

Nearly 1.1 billion people don’t have access to safe drinking water.
