“Being graduated as an Electrical Engineer from a reputed college of Assam ‘GIMT-GHY’ , I am aware that success in en-gineering study will enhance the quality of my life through a variety of rewards, benefits and opportunities. An engineer-ing college always plays a major role in the life of a student as it helps us to learn many opportunities in different fields and how to grow up our career. I can say that our college works hard to provide students with opportunities to further learn outside of the classroom and become more prepared for the real world. It’s not only about having attendance in the class, it’s about how we are learning our subjects, under-standing or not and how we can improve our knowledge day by day. Along with studies, our college also focuses on many co-curricular activities which helps us to grow, improve our skills and the best part of our college is that full support is provided by each and every professor. I have constantly felt encouraged and supported by professors specially from our Electrical Engineering Department. GIMT has helped me to meet great people as well as helped me to develop my skills that I will use throughout my career. Hands down, my college experience was awesome. GIMT will always have a special place in my heart.”

“On the very onset, I offer my warm wishes to all of you. Bridging the gap between academic curriculum and indus-trial expertise is of utmost challenge in today’s ever changing technological world. While shifting from the academics to an industrial career one must prepare well to accept the chal-lenges and at the same time deliver the objectives within the predefined time frame. GIMT is equipped with all the facilities of experienced faculties, modern laboratories, workshops to accept the challenges of today’s engineering requirements and shape its students to be industry ready. ‘‘

“When I first stepped into GIMT-Guwahati as a student of Elec-trical Engineering in 2009, to be honest, like many others I was apprehensive about my future and anxious about the chal-lenges I might perhaps be facing after being graduated from a private engineering institute. But as I graduated, I feel gratified and consider myself quite privileged to have acquired my en-gineering education in this premier college where I had am-ple opportunities to enrich my knowledge, to learn technical skills, to explore my abilities and also to develop my overall personality, which in the long run lead me to where I am today i.e. pursuing a career in the Power Sector of the State.Dynamic, experienced and excellent faculty members with approachable and friendly nature is the biggest asset of this institution. GIMT undoubtedly excels in imparting high quality education with prime focus on holistic learning and extensive practical exposure through workshops, technical seminars, field visits etc inculcating competitive abilities in students which helped us immensely to grow both personally and pro-fessionally. It’s been a wonderful learning experience to be a part of this esteemed institution that shaped us into proactive engineers..”

“I, Dimpi Sikha Saharia was a student of GIMT, Azara (2011-15 batch) of Electrical Engineering deptt. I am presently serving in APDCL as an Assistant Manager. The four years in GIMT was a treasure d one and a perfect blend of academics and culture.Everything i learnt from this institute helped me in not only making me technically sound but also in moulding my per-sonality. I feel proud to be part of this institute and it gives me immense pleasure to give back something to my college in the form of vote of thanks for their constant effort and guidance which helped me to establish myself. I would also like to take this opportunity to specially thank the EE Deptt for having an excellent set of faculty who always motivated me to work hard and gain knowledge. As for the current students i would like to say that confidence, patience along with hardwork are the best medicine to overcome failure and become successful in every goal of your life.”

“ I would like to say that the four years at GIMT were one of the best periods of my life. At GIMT, it always felt like a family, an another home, which helped me in my academic learning. I am thankful to all the faculty members of the College for their continuous efforts and support. Apart from excellent academic experience, I also gained the benefits of being a part of Cultural Student’ body. I cherish every moment spent at GIMT.The guid-ance from enthusiastic teachers and all the efforts made by me were rewarded at last. “

“ College life, the best part of my life! The place where I learnt how life is or is going to be.Never knew where it would to lead to. I have one of the best experiences of my life in those four years. Don’t ever feel that you cannot do something that is be-yond your field. As I am a Mechanical Engineer, I have started form a Mechanical based company Garuda Power Private Ltd., but now I’m into Software Engineering in an MNC, Capgemini. So, don’t look at what others are doing. Just focus on what you need to do, what you need to become. Don’t value the grades, value the knowledge. Grades won’t matter at a time. You might be last in you class but you can go above all. Just you should be focused. Groom your persona.Teachers & employees of col-lege are the key persons who can help you to groom. So, re-spect your teachers/parents/elders & love your juniors.Nothing is perfect and a world doesn’t need a pefect person, what it needs is a better you. Learn from your experiences and keep moving forward. This is the most important that I learnt during my college time in GIMT.

Alumni Views

“ I am honored to have this privileged of sharing my thoughts about GIMT. These four years in GIMT has been an incredible experience for me, and it has groomed me well. Before joining GIMT I did not have any idea what to do in life, but this is GIMT who has transformed an average student to a person who managed to get placed in Infosys and crack GATE in the same year and pursue M.Tech from IIT Guwahati. The faculties were wonderful, friendly, very approachable, and always ready to help when needed, not just for career-oriented but for personal advice as well. The college has a well-stocked Library, and all other facilities for extracurricular activities. The classrooms are spacious and well ventilated. I am pursuing the field that I want to be in.

I wish all the best to the future endeavors of the GIMT. ”

“ It is my pleasure that I’m offered to write about the won-derful years I had under the auspices of Mechanical Engineer-ing Department at GIMT, Guwahati.I cherished the feeling of studying at an institute, which focused on career enhance-ments along with overall skill development with the seam-less mix of academics and extracurricular activities.A young, amicable and passionate team of teachers have always guided me throughout the whole journey of my B.Tech life.I would always be grateful to my college for giving me a multi-dimen-sional learning by providing the appropriate mix of academ-ics, industry exposure, attitude and leadership. The Peer group at GIMT was intellectually stimulating, and with some I have made friends for life.GIMT is not just an institution but it’s more like a family to me, a great support to which I stand my-self as an independent woman.”

92GIRIJANANDA CHOWDHURY INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY

GIMT has adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards ragging and strives to achieve a completely rag-ging free institute. We are happy to announce that not a single case of ragging, even a very minor one, occurred in GIMT last year. We have built up a healthy tradition in this regard and we intend to keep it that way.Hon’ble Supreme Court of India accepted the anti-ragging report submitted by the former CBI Director R K Raghavan that suggested a 2-fold approach of punishment coupled with counseling to tackle the menace.Accordingly, GIMT also has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to tackle the menace of ragging. It launched an awareness drive amongst the students about the seriousness and consequences of indulg-ing in the act of ragging. To achieve this, the following measures are taken.1. The college authorities regularly address the students on this aspect to create awareness.2. Large displays (like banners etc.) are erected at important places around the campus at admissiontimes.3. An Anti-ragging squad (ARS) has been formed and the names and mobile numbers of the members of the ARS are made available to the students for any fresher to lodge a complaint if subjected to any form of ragging by his/her seniors. The ARS is instructed to keep strict vigil all around the campus. The members of the ARS are authorized to challenge any group/ individual suspected of indulging in any form of ragging.4. An Anti-Ragging Committee (ARC) has also been setup. The names of the ARC members along with their mobile numbers are published for the victim or his/her parents/guardians to lodge a complaint to the Chairman of ARC. The committee will investigate and suggest mode of punishment for the guilty persons. A student found guilty of ragging is punishable by suspension/ rustication from the Institute.5. GIMT publishes a booklet titled “Our Goal – A Ragging Free GIMT” and the same is made available toall students for free of cost, wherein all the aspects of ragging including the law of the land “The AssamProhibition of Ragging Act’ 1998”, the form of possible punishment etc. are described. Students aremade to realize that stringent discrepancy action in the form of suspension/ expulsion and rusticationfrom the Institute may result if anyone indulges in any act of ragging. In fact, at times, it may even endone’s academic careers. It also highlights the fact that the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has termedragging as a crime and makes filing of FIR mandatory by the College authority. GIMT is bound to complywith the above directive.

Affidavits[1]. All Students seeking admission in GIMT will submit two separate affidavits duly signed by Oath Commissioner as given at pages below. One affidavit will be signed by the student and another by the par-ents/guardians on Rs 10.00 stamp paper.[2]. All students allotted hostel accommodation will also submit two separate affidavits duly signed by the student and parents respectively as given above.[3]All affidavits will be submitted when the student joins the Institute.

BEYOND ACADEMICS

The Girijananda Chowdhury Group of Institutions had organised the annual college fest ‘Euphuism,2020’ at the GIMT and GIPS, Azara Campus with fun and frolic from 5th March to 7th March,2020. The 12th season of Euphuism this time contained the theme GKg’tyom which meant ‘Unity’. The inaugural cere-mony on 5th March,2020 was graced by the renowned  fashion designer Ms. Sanjukta Dutta who was the Chief Guest of the event. Ms. Dutta had given a very thoughtful speech and she tried to convey the message that “if a person has the passion for something, if he works day and night to achieve that dream, the Universe is bound to permit success to that person” She also added “Do not run after success, just continue with the work you love to do, one day you will find success is at your doorstep”. Ms. Dutta being a Civil Engineer from Assam Engineering College and had worked as Gazetted Officer at the PWD, Gov-ernment of Assam for 10 years, always had the dream of placing Assam Silk in the International forum. Then and there she left her job and started from the ground level of producing Assam Silk Sador Mekhela and now she displays her wardrobes at Lakme Fashion Week and at Cannes International Fashion Week lately. EUPHUiSM 20 “ “ concluded successfully on 7th March 2020. The 3-days of Eu-phuism,2020 was filled with many games and events both at inter and intra college level which included drama, singing, dance competitions, rap battle, cross fit etc. Students from Assam Engineering College, Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya, Cotton University, Central School etc. have actively participated. Parallel to this , other events were also going on in and around the campus. The evening of 5th March was made lively by the Uday Shankar dance group where they could depict the various cultures and customs of the North East. Another attraction of Euphuism,2020 is Glitters where the students get the opportunity to groom and showcase their personality and talents. This is also a platform for determining Mr. and Miss. Euphuism for the year. The evening of 6th March was made colourful by Raktim Goswami’s music band Colonial Friction from Tezpur and the 7th March evening was breathtaking with the latest trending songs by the famous singer, songwriter and guitarist from Mumbai, Nikhil D’Souza .
