Dear friends, Its been a busy month in July with our annual Holiday club having been a huge success, our services on Sundays being well attended even during the holidays and the youth doing outreaches to Kidstop as well as the daily work of the church which is always busy. Diana constantly lets us know that the church is sometimes even busier than the school and she has been such a blessing to us as a real ambassador for the Lord. I have sadly done quite a lot of funerals this last month and they have been a time of blessings for the families. We remember all of you in our prayers. I have also been doing a lot of weddings and so congrats to all the couples who got married in July. We are starting a new series from this Sunday called: Whats your story and I am so excited to be having opportunities for people to share their testimonies as well as a bible character who they have related to through their lives. We also begin Alpha this week and really are look- ing forward to this amazing teaching and equipping A DISCIPLING, LOVING COMMUNITY, SERVING JESUS CHRIST. WHAT’’S HAPPENING WITH LAWAAI?

FEEDBACK FROM CHILDRENS

Thank you to everyone who encouraged and supported us this past month. We have seen that we

are part of a church that goes the extra mile #superblessed! This year at Holiday Club with all of the

incredible donations and assistance we received, we were able to host a record average number of

207 children!

We had a whopping 93 volunteer who jumped in and helped form an amazing team. Thank you to

everyone who baked cakes, helped with registration, made food for kiddies, helped with market day,

read bible stories, painted stage décor, helped set up stage, made costumes, sponsored children.

Every donation and contributions enabled us to make this Holiday Club a HUGE success. A special

thank you to the Holiday Club leaders that looked after, played with and taught children for the week.

Without all of you this Holiday club would not have been the so successful! Thank you!

20’s to 30’s something (Young Adults) bowling

night...we have been having loads of fun and have

seen the group grow. We will be joining the Alpha

Course and will resume as normal after Alpha. There

is so much space for people to join us! Please chat to

Gideon or Lydia Loots for more info.

This is a question that many have been asking: “What is hap-pening with Lawaai?” So here is where we are up to date. The plans are finished and have been submitted to the municipality. Please continue to pray that plans will be approved ASAP.

Due to generous donations the doors, windows, roof and plumbing are covered for the building project. The Lawaai church congregation is raising the funds for bricks as each family is committed to buy a palette of bricks for the walls of the building. We have received a good discount for the church steel structure and hope to start with the foundation mid September. We are very excited with the progress that has been made so far, although more donations are still needed to finish the project.

At the beginning of the school holidays we had Holiday Club with 32 young leaders. The youth put so much time and effort into learning dances, dramas and games, preparing lessons and taking care of the children. Holiday Club is an amazing experience for both the children and the youth, and people often encounter God in ways that they never have before. To all the youth out there: Don’t miss the opportunity next year!

In the holidays we also had a two-day outreach to Kidstop, where some of the youth volunteered to go and spend their mornings reaching out to children in the Borchards community. It’s always an amazing experience for the youth to spend time with children from different communities and spread the love of God.

The Combi is on her last legs, but with the amazing response that the fundraising has received, she should be able to make it until her

replacement arrives. To date we have raised R27 000 from cupcake sales, the GMC Snoepie (the youth house tuckshop) and donations. A big thank you to Cecilia Baker for her amazing sup-port in organising the book sale for us.

We’re looking forward to a very exciting term ahead, as we go through the Youth Alpha series on Wednesday evenings. The series is a must for any youth who is struggling with difficult questions, Christian and non-Christian alike. There will be fun; good conversation and food, and best of all, there’s no cost involved!

We have a special request for a prayer team to come and pray and support the Alpha Youth. If you feel led to come and help us in this way please come and chat to Reuben or Rachel.

Please keep us in your prayers as we host this course and begin to plan our Alpha weekend away!

FEEDBACK FROM YOUTH MINISTRY

WHO’S WHO?

Wikus Smit joined the GMC team as an intern early this year. One of his new responsibilities is to be the co-ordinator for the evening service. He started attending Children’s Church when he was three years old (with his mom coming to the service). He stayed there all the way through to Grade 7. After that he became a leader in the Children’s Church until Grade 12 and then he moved over to the youth to become a leader.

If he would ever find himself stranded on a deserted island he would probably take a spoon with him, “otherwise how would I eat all of it?” he said with a smile. Wikus is motivated by the fact that God has a plan, and that it’s so much more amazing than he could ever imagine. To paraphrase C.S. Lewis; “we expect God to make a cottage of our lives, but He intends a palace that He can come and live in.” What Wikus loves about our church is that we are such a family. “I’ve been with GMC for almost my whole life, and it’s amazing how people just embrace one another here. You know that if you’re ever sick or in need, or just not having a good day, there’s always someone who will give you a call.”

Outside of work he enjoys reading, writing, bird watching and going to the sea for a few hours, casting bait on a hook into the water, reeling it in a short while later with nothing left on the hook, going home, and then calling it fishing.

When asked what do you see as your spiritual gift he answered compassion “I always try to look for ways to help people, and share the love of Jesus with them.” He finished with this thought “I’m not sure what the future holds, but I know it’s in God’s hands, so I’m not worried. I would hope to be ministering to people, and writing to spread God’s word, but as long as I follow Him I know it will all turn out well.” We are so grateful to have Wikus as part of our team.
