OUR MISSION

Under the patronage of Mary, Notre Dame College Prep is a secondary school committed to educating young men to be gentlemen of faith, scholarship, and service in an inclusive, family-oriented community. Faithful to the Roman Catholic tradition and inspired by Gospel values, we prepare students to be lifelong learners and to lead lives of integrity.

OWNERSHIP

Ownership of Notre Dame College Prep now rests in an independent Board comprised of Notre Dame alumni, parents, educators, and Catholic leaders from the larger community of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

LIFE PREP

Notre Dame partners with each student and his family to provide a challenging college preparatory academic program. Our goal is to prepare each Notre Dame Don for academic success in college. We are equally committed to preparing each student in his spiritual life, in his moral life, and in his social life.

PERSONAL GROWTH PLAN

Each student is assigned a counselor who will work with him throughout his Notre Dame experience. Counselors support students by assisting them in managing a variety of development issues that arise during adolescence. Students enhance their self-understanding and learn effective problem-solving skills. We provide the following services: Academic Planning/Support, Personal/Social Support, Career Advising, and College Counseling.

COLLEGE PLANNING

The College and Career Center works with Notre Dame seniors and juniors on their transition to college. Counselors conduct senior and junior Insight Nights, NCAA Eligibility Center Presentations, and Financial Aid Nights for students and parents. Counselors also coordinate Notre Dame campus visits for a wide variety of college representatives and athletic coaches, process college and scholarship applications, and write college recommendation letters.

As part of our commitment to forming men of faith and service, students attend monthly mass, study the Catholic faith in the classroom, experience the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation, make an annual retreat, and serve the local community. Our four-year retreat program is designed to help our students develop a mature faith that can augment a solid academic foundation with a real desire to deepen one’s relationship with God.

During Kairos, the culminating four-day faith experience for our senior Dons, young men discover how God is present and working in their lives, especially among family, friends, and others with whom they interact on a daily basis. They learn the importance of sharing their gifts with others and becoming leaders in their faith.

BE INVENTIVE

BE INVENTIVETRADITION MEETS 1:1 TECHNOLOGY

In the tradition of the Congregation of Holy Cross, a Notre Dame College Prep education promotes thedevelopment of the whole person. As the Congregation’s founder, Blessed Basil Moreau, C.S.C. stated,“The mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart.” We believe such an experience is critical, as society has a great need for people who lead lives of intellectual curiosity, strong moral character, and social responsibility. We further believe the quality of an education depends in large part on the quality of the people engaged in this purpose. Consequently, Notre Dame educators are people of faith who motivate, inspire, and lead our students toward academic excellence while fostering critical thinking, creativity, and leadership. Notre Dame is also committed to producing young men who have the knowledge and skills to be successful in today’s digital world. As technology continues to evolve, Notre Dame College Prep is prepared to integrate new devices and technology experts into the school environment.

BE COMPASSIONATE & GIVING

As Gentlemen of Mary, Notre Dame students are called to be men of faith, scholarship, and service. Each student is

required to participate in the Notre Dame Christian Service Program during his four years of high school. All students

must complete a minimum of 25 hours of volunteer service per year during their first three years and 15 hours during

their senior year. In true Notre Dame fashion, many students go well beyond this requirement. Each Notre Dame

student will volunteer a minimum of 90 service hours during his four years in high school.

Students can provide service at Notre Dame in a variety of ways. Students can serve as Ambassadors and volunteer at

athletic and community events or at specific events organized by the Christian Service Office. They may also provide

service to their parish, elementary school, or local community by coaching, tutoring, or participating in neighborhood

clean-ups, etc. Notre Dame students have volunteered with a variety of local charities and organizations such as the

Danny Did Foundation, Maryville Academy, Feed My Starving Children, Misericordia, Catholic Charities, Habitat for

Humanity, St. Thomas of Canterbury Soup Kitchen, etc.

At Notre Dame students volunteer more than 20,000 hours of service annually.

Paul Bergstrom ‘18 (St. Emily, Mount Prospect) came to the NDCP administration with the idea to develop an event to celebrate all ability levels. He created the concept of a field day, Ability Against Adversity or A A A day, including different sports and activities. Paul wanted students with special needs to showcase their talents and be s tar s for the day. “I wanted to let these kids be kids for a day and to get to hang out with high school kids.” Paul, a Hesburgh Scholar, captain of the baseball team and Summa Cum Laude honor student, will be attending Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska on a baseball scholarship.

Notre Dame students continue to learn, grow and strengthen friendships outside the classroom through co-curricular activities that provide an

outlet for 95 % of our students to develop their skills and learn new ones. Over 40 different clubs are available for students to join, including cultural, academic, service, and spe-cial interest groups. Each club plans their own activities and outings. Examples include restaurant visits,

museum trips, and international trips. The Irish Club has been to Ireland, the Italian Club has been to Italy, the Spanish Club has been to Spain, and the Jugglers Drama Troupe has visited England.
