BAM Board Meeting Summary The BAM Board held it’s quarterly

meeting last week Wednesday in addi-tion to several BAM committee meetings that happened throughout the day on Tuesday and Wednesday. We had a good showing from around the state and lots of good work was done.

The Board discussed the election results and what that may mean for the industry. While many speculate a repub-lican controlled legislature will be more business friendly, we have lots of work to do. It’s especially important for you to get to know your new legislators. Have coffee with them or invite them to a local asso-ciation meeting. BAM will be putting to-gether talking points and a campaign for your local association to do just that. Now is the time to get yourself introduced as the residential building industry expert! Reach out and ask your new elected of-ficial to help us rebuild MN together!

I also conducted a meeting with Minnesota’s NAHB Directors to discuss NAHB’s Future Task Force work. As you may know, I have been appointed to the National Task Force to help craft some recommendations for the national asso-ciation to consider. For more information about the task force check out my blog at http://pamspov.blogspot.com. I would love to have your input.

The board also voted on the 2011 Executive Committee slate and elected BAM’s 2011 President Todd Bjerstedt of McDonald Remodeling. He will be seated at our convention in January. Congratula-tions Todd!

The 2011 BAM Board slate will be voted on at the next meeting happening January 29th at the 2011 Convention in Minneapolis. The board was also introduced to…

There is still a members-only section of the site containing the thousands of dol-lars of resources available to members such as form contracts, code guides and engineered documents.

If you haven’t already, take some time to check it out! You’re going to love it! I want to thank Katherine Nielsen on the BAM staff for really working hard to get this up and running. She did a terrific job! Thank you Katherine!

From the Desk of Pam PerriNovember was a great month, getting busy gearing up for the Home and Garden Show, education classes, the Electrical and Builders Expo’s and every-thing else that came along. It was great having Pam here as our guest speaker. She knows

her stuff and has the energy to tackle it all. There were a lot of things to be thankful for, our members that work to keep the associa-tion strong, our board of directors and now we will actually have some committees to make things even better.

I am looking forward to our trip to Fergu-sons Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery on the 14th. It’s also my birthday that day, and as I told everyone at the last meeting, I want to hear some songs on the bus.

The New Year is coming, so add to your resolution list: get on a committee for the builders and see what goes on to keep the as-sociation going. Involvement makes it more fun for you and everyone else. Watch for the invite to our annual banquet on January 7th and get signed up. We will have kind of a redo of last year with Tim Eggebraaten providing dancing music and hopefully we will not have rain or snow.

Have you registered for the BAM state con-vention yet. Early bird rates go to December 24th. We have some members going, but it would be great if we had several going.

There will be a membership campaign beginning January 1, 2011 and ending De-cember 31st, 2011. The campaign will utilize local, state and national membership incen-tives and tools to promote membership in the LRBA. We will have prizes and BAM Grand Prize winner will get a Las Vegas voucher.

I have not received one award nomination sheet back yet. I will try emailing it.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

A MEETING OF THE MINDS

After Pam was finished speaking, she met with the past, present and future presidents, Al

Clark, Time Roble and Bryan Schoenberger.

She suggested we contact our state reps for a meeting over the Christmas recess to let them know we are out here, what we do and some things that need to be changed - such

as sprinklers.

Wishing you all a safe & happy holidays!

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Greeting everyone! The last month of 2010 is finally or already here de-

pends on how you look at it. Last month seemed to fly by. We had another great meeting with our guest speaker being Pam Perri from the BAM office. As many of you know she is very passionate about what she does and she does a great job for the MN Builders Assn. She had some interesting information and gave some more in-sight on what is happening on a state level as well as on the national level. Thanks to Pam for coming up and speaking to our group.

Once again this month we have a fun and educational event planned. Our next meeting will be a trip up to Fer-gusons Bath, Kitchen and Lighting Gallery in Fargo. This is sure to be a fun night with a lot of exciting things to see. The bus will leave from Modern Heating and Plumbing at 6:00pm on Dec 14th. Hope everyone can make this trip because they do a fantastic job.

The state convention is coming up in January. This year the event is packed with good information and good times. They have also made it more affordable to attend. Please look into this event as it only gets better with more involvement. Several members have already committed to attending so if you would like more information or would like to attend contact Sharon for more info.

As we move into December and the holiday season I wish you and your fami-lies well and have a safe and happy holiday season.

See you at the next meeting, Tim Roble

BUILDERS BUZZCome out and see the remodeled showroom at Ferguson Kitch-en Bath and Lighting Gallery. The bus will leave Modern Heat-ing at 6:00 p.m. , with refreshments on the way up. The factory representatives from Roth and Rohl have the floor for a while on the way up and do a show and tell about their products while at the showroom. Terry and all the employees do a great job and make you feel glad you came, so if you haven’t been there before, make the trip.

The Call You need to Make!

Only

Pam Perri Executive Vice President of the Builders Asso-ciation of Minnesota (BAM) was our guest speaker for our No-vember 16th meeting. She had a lot of valuable information on what has been happening at the state legislature as well as the national level. Pam is very involved with a task force to make some changes in the way the National Association is doing business as well as all she does for Minnesota.

One of the things she talked about is that the 2012 codes show that all residential homes must have sprinkler systems installed. Sprinkler systems should only be installed in multi - family dwellings. The cost to put them in homes will signifi-cantly raise the price of the home, especially if the home is in the country as it will add more to the costs.
