The Jesmond Picture House opened in May 1921 and was the most lavish of a handful of cinemas in Newcastle in the 1920’s.

The building was influential in Jesmond’s culture for more than 70 years until its doors closed for the last time in 1993 – falling into ruin, beyond repair, and finally demolition.

The entirely new development, The Jesmond, is a fitting and magnificent tribute on the site of the original building, and reflects in a contemporary way the ground-breaking Jesmond Cinema.

The architectural team behind The Jesmond was carefully selected for its talent, expertise and passion for design.

Kevin Owens Kevin was the Design Principal with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and was awarded the Royal

Institute of British Architects Client of the Year 2012 for his work across the 2012 Games in conjunction with the Olympic Delivery Authority.

As a Fulbright Scholar, Kevin’s education at Yale University formed the platform for his career within a multi-disciplined design field. Although formally trained as an architect, Kevin’s career path has afforded him great exposure across multiple design disciplines – this role is continuing as director of his new practice WilsonOwensOwens Architects. WOO is currently working on a range of projects including AFC Wimbledon’s New Stadium, England Rugby World Cup in 2015, and a new urban masterplan in the Middle East.

Stuart Palmer Stuart enjoys a broad international background. Having worked extensively in Berlin, London, Birmingham, Paris and Rome, he

relocated to the North East where he established his practice Studio-SP in Newcastle upon Tyne. Stuart has worked on projects for Marco Pierre White and Vivienne Westwood as well as the award-winning and internationally recognised Market Place Theatre in Armagh, Northern Ireland.

In addition to The Jesmond, Stuart is currently working on projects for Hilton, low energy housing at Coldingham Bay on the Scottish Borders and an art gallery for Lincolnshire County Council following a successful design competition.
