Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“Although we must cher-

ish, protect, and defend hu-

man life year-round, the

Catholic Church in the

United States sets aside each Oc-

tober as Respect Life Month.” Archbishop Joseph Neumann,

Pro-Life Activities Chairman

This year’s theme, “Christ Our Hope: In Every

Season of Life,” is particularly suited for our

times. While attacks against human life seem to

grow ever more numerous and callous, we know

that Christ has conquered sin and death. Through

our Christians hope in the Resurrection, we are

given the grace to persevere in faith.

Jesus in today’s gospel travelled beyond the

boundaries of Jerusalem towards Samaria and

Galilee where He encountered 10 lepers

and healed them. Our daily activities

take each of us to places and encounter

people of various conditions. May we al-

low Christ to renew and strengthen us,

that He may work through us in each mo-

ment of every day life. Meet people as

they are, where they are, and share the

mercy God revealed to us each day in scriptures

and through our rich tradition.

Like the gospel let us encourage a way for people

to recognize God’s Mercy and healing gift that

they too may give thanks to God. We gather to

celebrate the Eucharist, not just with people we

know and love, but to remember and celebrate

the presence of those who cannot come and cele-

brate with us at the Lord’s table. Never stop pray-

ing, Never stop reliving...

“CHRIST AS OUR HOPE, IN

EVERY SEASON OF LIFE.”

All Are Welcome Here If you are alienated

or upset, we

welcome you lovingly. If you

are in need of forgiveness, Jesus

forgives you completely—with

unconditional love. If you have

been hurt by the Church, we are

truly sorry. If you are angry,

Jesus offers you peace. If life has

become burdensome, we are

here to support you. We are

happy you are here and want

you to stay. We would like to

share our lives with you. Come

join us each week so we can

worship God together.

WELCOME

We Serve... THANK YOU to all who came out to

share food, fun and fellowship at our

Annual Jenni Heneghan Spa-

ghetti Dinner last

Friday! Thanks to

your generosity we

will donate $3,000 to

Catholic Charities to

assist those impacted

by Hurricane Dorian

in the Bahamas. What

a beautiful community

we have and a won-

derful God we serve!

THANK YOU!

couldn’t believe their luck, and they

hastened to the priests to confirm the

healing. They were more than willing

to leave their life of rejection and iso-

lation behind. Why take any steps

backward, when the way ahead was

so attractive? An attitude like this is

perhaps understandable, but few

would admire it.

How about you? Do you come back?

If you’ve ever had the experience of

getting what you hoped and prayed

for, you know that this can sometimes

be easier said than done. When we’ve

wanted something badly enough,

how easy it can be to focus on the gift

rather than the giver. The truth is,

God is daily offering us gifts: the gift

of our existence, of the created world,

of family and friends, of modern con-

veniences. Even in times of distress,

there is always something to be

thankful for. This Sunday, give your-

self a gratitude check. Count your

blessings. Glorify God and thank Him

for the gift of your life! ©LPi

Gospel Meditation

For Your Day

en lepers met him. They stood at a

distance …” In the ancient world and

into the Middle Ages, there was no

treatment for leprosy. People

thought it was wildly contagious and

were suspicious of any skin diseases.

Lepers were isolated from civil socie-

ty. This isolation was uphold by the

Mosaic Law. Should there be a heal-

ing from leprosy, the former leper

was to present himself to a priest to

certify the healing. Like Jesus com-

mands, “Show yourselves to the

priests.” The person would then un-

dergo a religious rite to be formally

reintroduced to society. In other

words, a leper got their life back. So

why didn’t they come back?

“As they were going they were cleansed.

And one of them, realizing he had been

healed, returned, glorifying God in a

loud voice; and he fell at the feet of Jesus

and thanked him.” Of the ten lepers

healed by Christ, only one returns

with a grateful heart. The others, per-

haps, were thankful enough.

Thanks, Two Men and a Truck! To fight hunger this holiday season, Two Men and a Truck

ty Food Pantry has been selected to receive all donated

nonperishable food items. The drive is underway and con-

tinues through Thanksgiving. We are blessed by this gen-

erosity!

This Week’s Vincentian Reflection In today’s Gospel we hear that only one of those healed

returned to glorify God, and to give thanks to God. It is

true, when we have a grateful heart, we know everything

is a gift from God. To give thanks for all God has given to

you, have you considered answering the call to help serve

the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?

YOUTH

Sacraments The Sacrament of Reconciliation

Confessions are heard each week on Saturday at the Church

(SR #46) from 3:45 pm to 4:45 pm.

The Sacrament of Baptism

Call the parish office to learn the necessary requirements

and make an appointment to have your child baptized.

The Sacrament of Marriage

Getting married? Congratulations! The process of being

married in the Catholic Church could take between 6

months to a year to complete. Please contact the parish office

as soon as possible after your engagement if you would like

to be married at All Souls Catholic Church.

Anointing of the Sick

Please call the parish office. The Rite of Anointing tells us

there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death

to receive the Sacrament. Did you know that the Sacrament

may be repeated if the person becomes sick again? A person

should be anointed before surgery when a dangerous illness

is the reason for the intervention.

Eucharistic Ministry to the Sick and Homebound

If you are unable to attend Mass, please call the parish office

so we may assist you in having a visit from one of our

ministers or one of our priests.

Catholic Funeral and Burial

Please call the parish office or have the funeral home

director contact us to arrange the Funeral Mass and for more

information about burial at All Souls Catholic Cemetery.

are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to

give thanks to God?" Lk 17:15-18

Saint Luke The Evangelist

L uke, the writer of the Gospel and the Acts of the

Apostles, has been identified with St. Paul's "Luke,

the beloved physician" (Colossians 4:14). We know few

other facts about Luke's life from Scripture and from early

Church historians.

It is believed that Luke was born a Greek and a Gentile. In

Colossians 10-14 speaks of those friends who are with him.

He first mentions all those "of the circumcision" -- in other

words, Jews -- and he does not include Luke in this group.

Luke's gospel shows special sensitivity to evangelizing Gen-

tiles. It is only in his gospel that we hear the parable of the

Good Samaritan, that we hear Jesus praising the faith of

Gentiles such as the widow of Zarephath and Naaman the

Syrian (Lk.4:25-27), and that we hear the story of the one

grateful leper who is a Samaritan (Lk.17:11-19). According to

the early Church historian Eusebius Luke was born at Anti-

och in Syria.

Lc 17, 15-18
