SHEDD AQUARIUMClub Shedd Park Voyagers (Fall 2015)Do you know any creative and driven teens? Club Shedd is for them! In this program, teens have the opportunity to work together with Shedd professionals to tackle real aquarium challenges. Club Shedd includes exclusive behind the scenes experiences at Shedd and will provide teens with skill-building opportunities and workshops to help them develop solutions that impact the aquarium. Projects could include designing new exhibit elements, enriching an animal’s habitat, or creating media communications about Shedd science! Teen Work-StudyShedd is very excited to announce that this coming fall 2015 into spring 2016, we will be piloting our first ever school-year long Work-Study Teen session. This session will run 26 weeks with a mid-season break during the winter holidays. Applicants should possess or want to develop strong communication skills and a connection to Shedd’s collection and mission, and have a desire to work in a team environment interacting with the public. Freedom, Resistance and the Journey Towards EqualityThis new exhibit will be one of the largest, permanent installations curated by the DuSable Museum staff that will highlight a chronological interpretation of the African Diaspora exclusively utilizing objects and artifacts from the Museum’s own collection. The exhibition will be designed to take visitors on a journey through the African American experience addressing several key periods throughout history that many visitors have come to anticipate being a permanent fixture within a culturally specific institution such as the DSM.

In this exciting exhibition, explore the world of mammoths and mastodons through fossils, artifacts, engaging interactives, immersive media, and the story of the most complete and best preserved baby mammoth ever found, Lyuba. From the Pleistocene to the present, explore their habitats, their neighbors, and their human hunters. A forest, often a dense and noisy home to many creatures, offers an opportunity for an orchestral and architectural approach for sound design and linking narrative. This exhibition features projects resulting from residency of artists and scientists organized by the International Institute of Tropical Forestry, The Aldo Leopold Wilderness Center, and Colorado Arts Ranch in March 2013.
