We did several themes this month (President’s, Valentine’s, Black History, Dinosaurs, and Transportation). For the President’s we read the silly book Duck for President and made the silly duck with his hat on. We made dinosaurs from the letter D, Valentine’s hearts for Valentine’s Day, and so much more. Since we squeezed in so much, we did not get to all of our letters and numbers. We will play catch up on letters and numbers in March. We did letters R and S and numbers 5 and 6.

February Newsletter

Kindergarten - 3rd Mrs. Kelly’s Classroom:Another month is almost over. This school year is flying by. We did several themes this month (President’s, Valentine’s, Black History, Dinosaurs, and Transportation). For the

President’s we read the silly book Duck for President and made the silly duck with his hat on. We made dinosaurs from the letter D, Valentine’s hearts for Valentine’s Day, and so much more. Since we squeezed in so much, we did not get to all of our letters and numbers. We

will play catch up on letters and numbers in March. We did letters R and S and numbers 5 and 6.

4th - 6th Ms. Brenda’s Classroom:Happy February!! Hope you all are staying healthy. What a wonderful February we had!

Students are learning and developing so many new skills in swimming class. Some students are even beginning to swim the length of the pool independently. Since it is Black History Month, we have had readings over the intercom every morning and in music therapy, Ms.

Heidi has introduced us to many new African instruments. We even learned an African dance called Zimbolé. Our class had a special treat on Valentine’s Day. Students from Richwoods

High School Student Council came and we made bracelets, played bingo, and made Valentine’s. Room 2 can’t wait for Spring and the warmer weather.

7th - 9th Mrs. Shannon’s Classroom:Our students were very busy during February! Students worked in small reading groups to

improve letter matching, phonics skills, and sight word identification. In math, students read a math story about Chinese New Year and practiced counting dragons, making patterns out of

paper lanterns, and identifying the shape of Chinese money envelopes. We also studied African American history month and Presidents’ Day in social studies, as well as the water

cycle in science.Students enjoyed attending the basketball game against Manual at the beginning of the

month. We had a special Valentine’s Day celebration with students from Richwoods High School and also planted lettuce with our guest speaker from the Agriculture in the Classroom

program. We took a CBI trip to Kroger to purchase items from a visual shopping list for cooking class. Some recipes we followed this month were Cheesecake Bites, Chocolate-

Covered Pretzels, and Strawberry Candy Bark.

High School Mr. Brad’s Classroom:

Mr. Brad’s class had a fun and eventful February. We enjoyed the big basketball game at Manual Academy. It was a very tight, exciting battle between the Manual Rams and our

Jamieson Eagles that was neck in neck all the way to the final buzzer. We also had fun parties for Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras and learned a lot about famous African-Americans for

Black History Month. This month we also said goodbye to a long-time member of our class, Juan, who celebrated his

22nd birthday and is finally done with school. Juan is one of the most unique individuals to ever grace the halls of Jamieson, and we will have many lasting memories of fun times and

interesting experiences with him over the years. Juan, we will miss your one of a kind personality. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors…

High School Miss Ronda’s Classroom:Even though this school year appears to be moving fast, while Miss Ronda is out on medical

leave, our classroom continues to miss her and are eager for her to come back to school. Our classroom continues to want to learn sight words, reading, math, and vocational skills. We

continue to go on trips to the Friendship House for volunteer work. We went to play Manual High School in basketball, which featured a couple of the players from our class. It was an

exciting game, but we lost the game. We had a great time cheering for Jamieson’s basketball team as they played against Manual High School.

Miss Cranwill – PAT Academy Vocational teacher:February has been a short but fun packed month with lots of learning! Ms. Cranwill’s class was busy with class work, cooking, and CBI trips. For our CBI trips, we went to Landmark for

bowling, McDonald’s for a treat, Target for some shopping, and the RiverPlex & the Y to compare exercise facilities. The students said that their favorite trip was to the RiverPlex.

We learned about making healthy exercise choices and about the variety of classes they offer. The Eagles’ Eatery served salad bar, mac and cheese, and chicken wings this month. Learning

to both bake and fry wings was a wonderful experience. Special thanks to Ms. C, Mrs. Grombka, and Ms. Joyce for being guest chefs. Our class cooked meatloaf in a mug, taco

salad, chicken pot pie, and homemade donuts. Our students had a wonderful Valentine’s Day party and are looking forward to an all school assembly to celebrate Black History Month. March looks to be an exciting month including a basketball game, new CBI visits, and guest

speakers.

Miss Chelmowski – PAT Academy Reading teacher:February has been a very eventful month. We have talked a lot about the 2018 Winter

Olympics. Students have gone on adventures to the local YMCA, Riverplex, Barnes and Noble, Five Below, and Landmark Bowling among other fun places. Students have been having fun

making and playing with various colors of our very own homemade Slime. Students have made a wide variety of recipes in class this month ranging from a microwaveable sugar cookie

in a bowl, pizza in a bowl, grilled ham and cheese with tomato soup, garlic ginger chicken ramen soup, green beans, potato salad, and apple cobbler. This month we have spent time

talking about gratitude and concepts relating to gratitude. This month we also are saying goodbye and good luck to Theodore Johnson. We all wish him

the best of luck as he leaves the PAT Academy. We will all miss his jokes and his amazing ability to make us all laugh and smile.

Next month there will be many more fun things to look forward to. March Madness and the Work Expo are fast approaching. In the month of March we will be focusing on mindfulness

and maturity and how it relates to the theme of respect.

Miss Schumm – PAT Academy Work Coordinator:

There will be a PUNS (Prioritization for Urgency of Needs for Services) sign-up/renewal on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. PUNS is a statewide database that records information about

individuals with developmental disabilities who will potentially be in need of services. PUNS funding can be used for services such as day programming, residential, in-home supports, and other supports. Families will have the opportunity to sign-up or renew at the Developmental

Center, Jamieson, or Richwoods, at various times throughout the day. The waiting list for PUNS funding may be many years, so it's important that you renew each year. Registration

forms will be sent home with students the week of March 5.

Glen Oak STEP Team stomps in to help celebrate Black History Month

Jamieson School was privileged to have the STEP Team come perform for us during Black History Month. Students were entertained with a wonderful program where the Glen Oak

team showed us their moves, cheers, and footwork. The team then brought out some of our students and taught them part of their routine. Needless to say, our kids loved this. The best part was to see the interaction between our schools, as the team then went in to individual

classrooms to join our students and assist them with their tasks. A heart felt “Thank You” goes out to Coach Valerie Blake and the entire STEP Team. Can’t wait to see you again next year!

JAMIESON GIRL SCOUTSThe Jamieson Girl Scout Troop worked hard in February. They took Girl Scout cookie orders at home and school, collected money for orders, organized each order, and delivered them. We believe the girls will be receiving a special patch for their efforts. Throughout the month, the

girls sold about 450 boxes of cookies! The girls earned two Daisy patches this month from activities in our regular meetings. Since

they have been practicing the Girl Scout Pledge, they earned the ‘Promise Circle’ in the middle of their uniforms. They also completed several activities about being fair and honest (the first

part of the Girl Scout Law) and earned their first daisy petal.
