A Letter from the Founder
Have you ever reached a point in your life where you really did not
understand yourself, your beliefs, or your purpose? I was there and felt the
need to do something about it.
I have always believed if God wakes me up, He’s not through with meand has a purpose for my life. I began looking over my life in an effort to
discover what I would do for free and what came naturally. No matter what
memory came to me, working with the youth - specifically girls - seemed natural.
I took a look at the young girls currently in my life. I noticed the way they
carried themselves, the way they spoke and interacted with one another.
These young girls are the future; they will be women some day. I believe God has
given us, as women,
a gift of influence.
I realized the positive influence I could have in life but I knew I had to make a change. I first had
to understand how valuable my life is to God and His purpose for my life. Next, I began to think
“what a difference there would be in this world if more women knew their value and purpose in life.” We
could become Women of Virtue! From that thought, I was drawn back to the young girls and knew that
was the place to start, and so I developed Girls of Virtue, Inc.
Through this program, women are coming together to mold and shape the minds of young girls
through attributes of dedication, trustworthiness, leadership and positive Godly influence. The
organization will provide as many young girls as possible with the opportunity and environment to obtain
the skills needed to become Women of Virtue!
After months of preparation on February 11, 2006, we held our first activity. We baked cookies,
played games to get to know each other, and helped the girls to understand the mission and vision of an organization then called From Girls to Young Women. By March of 2006, the organization grew in
number, the girls made new friends and set goals for their young lives, and the name was officially changed
to Girls of Virtue. From then on, you could find us in different locations each month participating in
activities ranging from volunteering our time at the food pantry and park cleanups,
to hosting workshops on money management, self-esteem and confidence building.
In August of 2007, we began preparation for A Classy Affair . It is our annual benefit gala to raise
awareness of the organization and secure funds to ensure young girls continue to benefit from all the
organization has to offer. This event promises to become one that inspires attendees to set goals that will
lead them to achieve God’s purpose for their lives. Additionally, we hope this event will encourage our
guest to build up their fellow brothers and sisters who strive to succeed while on this earth.
What is God’s purpose for your life? If you know, what are you doing to achieve it? If you do not know,
what are you doing to discover it? Today is your day! As Philippians 4:13 reads: “I can do all things through
Christ who strengthens me.”
