Ramadan is an easy great reward that is available for everyone living on earth. On the other hand, others who lie under the ground (the dead) are deprived of it. Here, I do not intend to motivate you to perform good acts in Ramadan such as reading Quran, contemplating, giving charity, remembering Allah, praying at night, performing righteousness…etc. In fact, the wise realizes well how he can exert his utmost efforts in order to perform and increase such acts. Instead, I motivate and urge you to hasten to a great advantage of this month. Related Entries The beginning of the development of Nations How to Understand Ramadan? Such an advantage is available in other months but in Ramadan, it is eas ier andmore dis t inguished. It is the chance to change. There is no one of us but that he has bad habits andhabitual acts of disobedience which he is accustomed to and which he cannotgive up. However, the matter is completely different in this blessed month.Ramadan has changed many people. Fas t ing, praying at night and seeking thehelp of Allah have helped him to avoid and abandon everything that obstructshis way towards obedience. In addit ion, such righteous acts have helped him toleave what causes his heedlessness , being away from Allah or what keeps himaway from the superior matters . Therefore, everyone should seek change by the beginning of this blessedmonth. In addit ion, he should count his most dis t inguishable habits andmis takes; the habits that prevent him from sublimity and take him away fromguidance. Then, he should exert great efforts to neglect them; and he shouldsubst itute them for their contradictories , such as the acts of good andimprovement. There are many bad qualit ies that have spread in societ ies and should beabandoned by the beginning of this month. The following are jus t someexamples: Quick anger: some people get angry for t rivial matters and without thinking. Moreover, he takes such trivial matters as a pretext for hatred and enmity thatmay las t for a long or a short t ime. He was supposed to dis regard many of themis takes of others that do not cause any inevitable evil consequences . Thismakes him more like ly to live with a clear conscience and a serene mind.

As it was reported, Imam Ahmad or another scholar said, “Nine tenths ofhappiness lie in dis regarding.” Thus , the chance is available for the people havingsuch trait to s tart accustoming themselves to pat ience and calmness . Inaddit ion, the Prophet, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, has said, “Thestrong man is not the one who wrest les , but the s trong man is in fact the onewho controls himself in a fit of rage.” [Agreed upon]

هیلع قفتم « بضغلا دنع هسفن كلمي يذلا ديدشلا امنإ ةعرصلاب ، ديدشلا سیل » The evil assumpt ion: After the man says something or does something, evilassumpt ions surround him and different s tands are taken agains t him becauseof what he has said. After that, his integrity as well as the clarity of his heart areproven. How beaut iful it is to accustom ourselves to having good opinion ofothers and to thinking of the good jus t ificat ions of their act ions all the t ime. As Ja’far ibn Muhammad said, “Think of seventy excuses for your brother.” However, I do not ask you to think of seventy excuses but jus t to think of whatyou can find of excuses . If you did not find any excuse, accuse yourself [of beingmis taken]. Cons idering backbit ing as an easy matter: there is an honorable man who isloved and appreciated by others and who cares about his own matters withoutrealizing what is plotted behind his back. At such case, those who do not fearthe punishment of backbit ing ment ion his mis takes and show his defects . Thus ,the view of people towards him is changed after they used to respect him andto deal with him with the best means of love as well as verbal and actual

appreciat ion. Every wise person should avoid such major s in and should leave others tomanage their own bus iness . I do not think this matter is hard for the one who istruthful, especially because we are in the moth of t ruth and virtue. Envy: Ibn Taymiyyah said, “No one is saved from envy.” This indicates that allpeople are afflicted with it and no one is saved from it . However, there are somewho do not push it away and do not s trive for abandoning it . This causes him tolose his good deeds and constructs a barrier of hatred and enmity between himand others . The truthful one does not give a chance for envy to penetrate hisheart , as he loves others . In addit ion, he does not wish that they lose what theyhave of bount ies . If such person fe lt something indicat ing envy agains t hisbrother, he would hasten to supplicat ion. He would pray for him from his heart inorder to cut the way of Satan and to cut the roots of this disease. Therefore, heremains a good one having a serene mind and conscience. This month is an easy great treasure to communicate with others . It is a chanceto love them, get closer to them, and being cordial towards them bycongratulat ing them for the bless ings of Allah bestowed upon them. It is also achance to invoke Allah for them openly and secret ly. Through this , the meaningof unity, compass ion and mercy among people are achieved. In addit ion, goodprevails and hatred fades away. Smoking: By Allah, if the smoker wants to abandon such bad habit in any monthother than Ramadan, he will be able to do it with s trong will and determinat ion.So, what about the one who wants to abandon it in the month of fas t ing? Healready remains half a day without smoking. Thus , it is poss ible to complete his

day without it . Moreover, it is poss ible to keep himself busy with what is moreuseful for him. In addit ion, he can ask Allah to help him and he repeats the samethe next day and every day unt il he is purified from it . Lis tening to songs: the controversy is that people do not unders tand thedanger of lis tening to songs . It blocks the way between the s lave and his Lordand weakens his love to his Lord, the Almighty. In addit ion, it increases thebroad fancies which support the prohibited love and creates the forbiddeninclinat ions to the persons who have beaut iful faces whether males or females .Do not ask about its consequences of dis tresses , sorrows, and difficulty ofmatters . It is very appalling to lis ten to songs in months other than Ramadan. Thus , it isthe uglies t s in to lis ten to them in Ramadan. It is a month for fas t ing the dayand praying the night. In addit ion, the res t of the day should includeremembrance, Quran, supplicat ion, and giving charity. These are jus t some examples . However, the reality is full of wrong habits andhateful pract ices . There are people who hoped to witness that month but theydied before it s tarted, as death was a barrier between them and their hopes . Onthe other hand, here you are, enjoying witness ing this month and collect ing itsbenefits . Therefore, you should take it as a truthful s tart towards the pleasureof Allah, Glorified and Exalted, and after that, towards improvement andsublimity. We should always remember the verse in which Allah Almighty says , {Verily! Allâhwill not change the (good) condit ion of a people as long as they do not changetheir s tate (of goodness) themselves (by committ ing s ins and by being
