On this day we acknowledge the importance of art in moving beyond the boundaries of age, gender or cultural background. To learn about the role of women in Aboriginal culture, we will hear inspiring stories from highly celebrated Aboriginal women, learn about their personal journey and explore the importance of art in Aboriginal storytelling. We will then hear songs from two of Perth’s local Aboriginal language choirs, Koondarm and Madjitil Moorna. Finally, participants will participate in an interactive painting workshop. After learning the meaning behind traditional painting techniques and symbols, we will collaborate to create a community canvas which will be donated to Perth City Farm at the conclusion of the workshop. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY & OPENING ADDRESSRISHELLE HUMERishelle is a proud Noongar Woman with traditional ties to the Whadjuk, Ballardong and Gnaala Karla Booja peoples, and a mother of 3 children. Rishelle is a direct descendent and granddaughter of the highly respected Noongar elder, Mr Patrick Hume who spent his life tirelessly promoting Aboriginal rights and his Noongar culture. Like her grandfather, Rishelle has devoted her working life to the advancement of her Aboriginal people and her Noongar culture.

She has over 20 years’ experience in Aboriginal engagement ranging from employment, education, justice and health. Rishelle is actively involved in the Aboriginal community within the Perth region as the Chairperson of the Mandjah Boodjah Aboriginal Corporation, Co-Ambassador of the Yorga Djenna Bidi Leadership Program and Noongar Charitable Trust Advisory Council Member. Rishelle has added value to Aboriginal advancement in WA by demonstrating Aboriginal leadership. She is seen as a professional fi gurehead to approach to engage the Indigenous community of WA, coordinating approaches to dealing with State Indigenous matters. Rishelle has completed her Bachelor of Commence with a Double Major in

KOONDARM CHOIRKoondarm Choir, the young adult choir link from Madjitil Moorna will be sharing songs in Noongar Language and songs written by Aboriginal people. The two choirs are led by Aboriginal musical directors and through music, aim to create a bridge toward reconciliation.

SPEAKER: DORINDA COXDorinda Cox is an Aboriginal (Noongar) woman from the South West region of WA, who has over 20 years’ experience working in government and the non-government sectors at local, State and National levels. She has recently attended the 2016 APEC Women and the Economy forum as the Indigenous Private Sector Representative on the Australian Delegation. Her current role is the Project Offi cer for the Keeping Kids Safe Project at the Women’s Council for Domestic and Family Violence Services WA. Dorinda also is the Managing Director of the Inspire Change Consulting Group and delivers training, speeches and presentations to a wide range of stakeholders.

INTERACTIVE ART WORKSHOP: JADE DOLMAN – J.D. PENANGKEJade Dolman (J.D. Penangke) aims to reconnect Aboriginal people with their culture and to encourage reconciliation by providing cultural education to non-Aboriginal people.

Jade will run the interactive workshop, which will include an introduction to Aboriginal art, specifi cally looking at the meaning behind the paintings, symbols, dreamtime storytelling and learning the Noongar seasons as well as a hands on session where a large communal mural will be created by the whole group.

The completed canvas will be gifted to Perth City Farm, for their generosity in hosting the event.

Human Resource Management and is currently the Senior HR Aboriginal Employment Consultant within the Oil and Gas sector. She is highly respected by the Indigenous community and employers as an innovative and experienced Project Manager.
