Fr. Tim’s Reflection ADVENT IDEAS This week we enter into a new Church year and the season of Ad-vent. It is a season of preparation for the coming of Christ. Here are a few ideas for Advent. Think about choosing two or three with the goal of preparing your heart for Christ’s coming: -Baby shower: During December have your family collect baby items: diapers, onesies, etc. to donate to Skylark (formerly Care Net). Teach children this can be a special gift for baby Jesus. -Blue Books – These daily devotionals help prepare the way of the Lord! (available by the front doors). -Christmas Memories – Have a family night where you discuss your favorite Christmas memories: my favorite Christmas past, best gift I ever received, the best gift I ever gave, my favorite Christmas song… -Caroling: Go caroling! -Confession: Prepare your soul for the coming of Jesus by cele-brating Confession. -Cultural Traditions – Share your Christmas cultural traditions with your children or another family. -Receive a daily email meditation. Go to BestAdventEver and sign up! -Celebrate Immaculate Conception (Dec. 8) – A holy day of obliga-tion. -Make a Jesse Tree (Isaiah 11:1) – Using Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, Noah, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Ruth, Jesse, David, Solo-mon, Isaiah, Micah, Jonah, Joseph, Mary show children Jesus’ family tree. -Put out your manger scene. Whenever someone in your family does a good deed they can lay a piece of straw in the manger to prepare the way for Jesus! This devotion was begun by St. Francis of Assisi. -Nursing Home – Make a visit and bring some sweets or gifts. -Paper Chain – Make a paper chain or calendar and count down the days of Advent! -Resources – Do you want other great ideas? Just Google “Advent resources or go to www.CatholicMom.com. -Saint Nicholas’ Day (Dec. 6) – Explain to children the story of Saint Nicholas. Fill their shoes with prizes. -Wreath – Make an Advent wreath! The meaning? The circle sym-bolizes eternity, the green bought (hope), candles (light of the world), and unlit candles (waiting in the dark). Say a prayer and light it each night before dinner. -Fr. Tim McKeown

December 20, Wednesday, at 10 am we will be decorating the Christmas tree for the altar. Parishioners are welcome to help.

Our Christmas Giving Tree is set up in the entranceway. If you’d like to help, please

take a tag and bring the gift back un-wrapped.
