We want to welcome you to the ACES Programme at The Glasgow School of Art.

ACES is a major widening participation project at The Glasgow School of Art, funded by the Scottish Funding Council. It aims to encourage S4 - S6 pupils from 90 target schools in the West of Scotland to make informed choices about degree level study in Art & Design and Architecture. The project seeks to widen participation in Higher Education for students who are often under-represented in universities, which means it aims to encourage applications from young people who may be the first in their family to go to University, come from a low-income background or have experienced adverse circumstances.

ACES can provide pupils with an insight into student life at GSA, studying an Art & Design or Architecture degree and Creative Industry careers advice. Pupils who are interested in applying to Art & Design and Architecture courses at The Glasgow School of Art can expect to receive support through bespoke and focussed activity. ACES activities include:

Creative workshops, subject specialist activity and personal •tutoring: guidance on personal statements and support to develop content for e-folio and portfolio

Interview preparation for specific courses•

Information sessions on Higher Education and Art School life for •teachers, parents and carers as well as pupils

Pupils who are interested in applying to Art & Design and Architecture courses at The Glasgow School of Art, are encouraged to apply to ACES directly.

Teachers and other professionals who work with young people can also nominate pupils.

We offer tailored, specialist activity that is immediately responsive to pupil’s needs and as a result, likely to vary. We work with pupils to develop sketchbooks and essential drawing skills, a personal body of work outwith their SQA school content and subject specific work.

We encourage pupils to ask critical questions and explore ideas that they have not considered previously. This is not always easy, but with the opportunity to work with specialist staff, undergraduates and graduates we help applicants to understand more about their chosen course and what art school life is really about.
