HARPER

HARPER

HARPERLiam!

We hear struggling over the bag.

HARPER(laughs) fine.

LIAM

Fine?

HARPERFine.

INT. BATHROOM

places a ring necklace around neck, we see a tear drop ontoit. crying girl getting ready(dressed formally in black)in amirror

HARPERIts the big day, i had just hopedi would be wearing white

Her mother appears behind her.

MOMHoney, are you ready.

HARPER

YES!Turns around to look at her mom

HARPER

yes, just give me a minute.

MOMTake your time.

the girl turns back to the mirror. And wipes the tears outof her eyes.

HARPERSo, this is it? This is the foreveryou promised? our life together?

we see the boy in the mirror.

LIAMNo.

The girl turns to her left but there is nobody there.

EXT. FIELD

Let us commend Liam to the mercy of God, for he was a son ofgod(pastors voice drains out and)

LIAMTry it.

HARPERNo i cant.

LJust once!

We see harper and Liam sitting in a field (benedictine)Harper is holding Liams guitar. Harper strums, it soundsterrible. Liam laughs.

HARPERShut up!

Harper Pushes Liam. Liam laughs more.

HARPERGod your an idiot. You play.

HARPERThat song you said you were writingfor me.

LIAMIts not finished, its not evengood!

Liam starts playing (ill teach Liam the song)

EXT. GRAVEYARD

THE PRIESTS VOICE FADES IN

PRIESTWe commit this body to the ground,earth to earth, ashes to ashes,dust to dust.

We see harper stare at the casket as it is lowered into theground. Harper bends over and puts a red flower next to thegravestone. We realize that this is a different day and thefuneral is over. Harper stands up and walks away from thegrave.

INT. HOUSE

Harper is sitting at a table with a bottle of whiskey nextto her. The cap is off and the bottle is half empty. Harperlooks from the table to the whiskey. We hear conversation.

DADWe need to get her help.

MOMShe just lost her boyfriend, sheneeds time to cope

Harper stands up and cracks the door where they arefighting.

DADWhat she needs is a therapist, haveyou heard her she keeps talking toherself!

Harper grabs a scarf.

MOMShe just needs time.

DADIt has been three weeks i think sheneeds to get over it.

Harper slams the door shut. Mom and Dad look over.

EXT. STREET

Harper walks along the street. We hear conversation in herhead.

LIAMHarper, im serious

HARPERWhat do you mean you are serious?

LIAMI mean, I love you, and i want tobe with you forever.

HARPERBut Liam... Im only 16, and youonly 17 for christ sake, what doyou mean get married... Thatscrazy!

LIAMI know its unorthodox, but when youknow you know. Harper... can i ask

you a question?

HARPEROf course

LDo you love me.

HARPERLiam.

LIAMHarper!

HARPER... Yes. Yes of course i love you.

LIAMAnd will you love me tommorrow? Andthe next day, and the next?

HARPERYes! Liam i will always love you,but marriage? It just seems toofast.

LIAM

This isnt marriage. This isengagement. This is a promise. Apromise that I will always beyours, and you will have a ring toprove it.

Liam pulls out the ring. Harper looks at the ring and thentakes it.

Back on the street we see harper looking at the ring.

HARPERYou promised.

Harper throws the ring at the field. and starts walkingaway.

LIAMHarper!

HARPERAnd these voices inside my head. HEIS DEAD. He is dead.

We see Liam standing behind harper.

LIAMHarper! Im here

Harper turns around in shock then runs to him.

HARPERLiam! I thought you were dead...You were dead, I-I saw the body,god who cares you are here!

Harper hugs Liam again.

INT. CAR

MOMGod where did she go.

DADShe hasnt been out that long shecouldnt have gotten far.

EXT. FIELD

HARPERI missed you. What was it likebeing dead?

LIAMI dont know. I was dead.

HARPERLiam dont you ever leave again.

Loud car horn. Mom and dad are in the parking lot of thefield. They get out of the car and start running towardsher.

MOMHarper what are you doing!?

HARPERMom you wont believe it, Liam isali-

Harper looks over and realizes that Liam isnt there.

INT. HOUSE

DADThis needs to stop

We see dad Harper and mom all sitting in the living room.

HARPERDad i told you he was there

MOMWe talked to your doctor, he thinksthat you may have PTSD. You havebeen going through a lot lately andwell, it is hard to handle all ofthat on your own. He wants to putyou on Escitalopram(es-sye-TAL-oh-pram)

HARPERMom i dont need drugs, im notcrazy.

DADNot crazy harper, depressed, Itwill just take the edge off. Justone a night and you will forget allabout... him.

INT. BEDROOM

Harper is sleeping, there are drugs on the bedside table. Wehear Liams voice

LIAM

Forever.

Harper suddenly wakes up. Looks around and sees no one. Shelooks at her alarm clock. It is 1 A.M. She gets up and walksout the door.

EXT. STREET

Harper walks up the fields and meets Liam there.

LIAMHey

Harper says nothing and sits down next to him. There is apicnic blanket and a guitar on the ground.

HARPERI talked to your mom Liam.

LIAMAnd...?

Harper looks up at him

HARPERShe thinks you are dead. Liam,

everyone but me thinks you aredead. And they say im crazy.Seriously you are sitting rightthere. What is wrong with them.

Liam stares at her for a second

LIAMI finished your song.

Liam picks up the guitar and starts to play

(once again only Liam will know this part)

Halfway through the song the music continues playing but wesee this scene

EXT. ROOF

I want this on top of a roof because thats super cool but ifits not possible it could be somewhere else.

HARPER

If a tree falls in the forest doesit make a sound?

LIAMYes

HARPERBut you cant prove it! There is noone there to hear it.

LIAMThe trees hear it.

HARPERTrees arent people Liam

LIAMThat doesnt mean they are alive. Atree means as much to another treeas a person does to another person.If a tree falls in a forest it doesmake a sound. Because the treeisnt alone, its never alone. Thereis a whole forest of trees allaround it.

Harper looks from Liam to the sunset.

EXT. FIELD

The song finishes. We see harper cry as the song finishes.We looks over to where Liam would be but he isnt there.

SCREEN FADES TO BLACK

EXT. GRAVEYARD

Harper walks over to the grave a places down a flower. Shestands up and starts to walk away then turns around and goesback to the flower. She places her ring around the stem.Harper walks away and the song fades back in but justguitar.
