A Brief History of Hungary As we know, transitions between historical ages among tribes, cities and states didn’t occur simultaneously. Being one of the old nations, Hungary has seen many ages, including prehistoric era, before written records. Circa 5000 BC, the Hungarians were farmers though they were using stone tools as opposed to bronze. Bronze came to use circa 2000 and after 1200 years they got into the Iron Age. Circa 500 BC, commerce began, especially with the Greeks. The commodity exchanged was potters. This was a herald that the countries were going to get engaged more as then on. Quite unexpectedly, around these years, the contact with the Hungarians came from the Celts. The reason of the invasion is still unknown to this day. Relatively recently, a significant contact occurred between the Romans and the Hungarians circa 35 BC. The Romans invaded the region the Hungarians lived in. This invasion was started by Augustus but completed by Tiberius. This lasted until 9 AD, when the people of Pannonia revolted. The Roman cities were Pecs and Buda. The people of Sarmatia were settled in between Danube and Tisza. Circa 100 AD, the Romans conquer east Hungary and after a hundred years they withdrew from Dacia and ceded the area to the Goths. In the 4 th century the Huns invaded Europe and Pannonia is given to the Huns by Theodosius II. Then, the region was invaded by the Germanic tribes, the Ostrogoth people and the Lombard people following respectively. This region was an important point of the world so lots of nations fought for it. It was invaded by Avars then the Slavs and the Franks took over the region. Charlemagne conquered central Europe and pushed Christian. In the 9 th century, the Hungarians cross the Carpathiaus to make looting raids against Franks and Great Moravia. In 895 the Magyar people, leading the tribe of the Hungarian alliance, Arpad came from Urals and Asia. In the 900s the Hungarians settled in western Pannonia, seven years later, they encountered the Bavarian Germans and the Battle of Pressburg happened. The result of this war enabled the Hungarians to raid surrounding states. In 1001 Stephen I the Saint was crowned and became the first King of Christian Hungary.
