THE Volunteer members of the StJohn Ambulance Service in AliceSprings have just celebrated 50 yearsof serving their community.
The special occasion was markedwith a member dinner at Madigansin the Desert Park, a function hostedby the Mayor Damien Ryan. Therewas also a naming ceremony andmorning tea at the Alice SpringsAmbulance Centre.
St John Ambulance chancellor andformer administrator Dr Neil ConnAO and Mrs Lesley Conn travelled toAlice Springs to join members for thecelebrations.
Former administrator Ted EganAO and his partner Nerys Evans alsoattended.
The member dinner and the AliceSprings Council function recognisedthe many thousands of voluntaryhours the St John Volunteers havecontributed since 1961.
The ambulance centre on Tele-graph Terrace was renamed theBernie Kilgariff Complex in honourof a well-known, respected and lovedTerritorian.
Bernie Kilgariff AM was a St Johnboard member for more than 20years.
He was a man of true communityspirit and contributed a lifetime ofunwavering support for the work ofSt John Ambulance NT Volunteers
across the Territory.
Mrs Aileen Kilgariff and membersof the Kilgariff family attended theceremony to witness the unveiling ofthe newly named building.
