Hi everyone: Well our first boating event of the year is in the books, and it was fantastic as usu-al! Garlic Fest at the King-ston Marina has been an an-nual tradition to kick off the HHYC boating season and the turnout was great, along with the weather and water conditions. Keli, Pearl and I had a great cruise over from Elliott Bay Marina on Friday in the sunshine, which then stuck around for the entire weekend. Everyone was reminiscing about Garlic Fest last year when we sat around freezing to death – this year we were in shorts, tee shirts and sandals. A special thanks to our hosts P/C Dane and Terry Fantz, who did a wonderful job planning and hosting the event, and their super helpers Brynn, Dennis and
Rick. I think Terry and Brynn spent the entire weekend prepping food and cooking, and it was greatly appreciated. Serv-ing eggs benedict for breakfast to a large crowd is quite a challenge, and they pulled it off beautiful-ly. On Friday afternoon as our boaters arrived we had a happy hour on the dock followed by a hamburger dinner hosted by the King-ston Yacht Club, who have generously hosted us over the years to join their Fri-day evening activities and then allowed us to use their clubhouse for the rest of the weekend. The Garlic “cook-off” competi-tion on Saturday afternoon was a lot of fun and we had a lot of amazing dish-es. Congratulations to our three chefs who took top honors in the people’s choice voting: Brynn Sheridan, Rick Lee and Tom Massey. Paul Quinn and Patty Cos-sack had a bit of bad luck with their boat and ended up driving to the event. On the other hand, they were rewarded with some good luck and on Saturday successfully closed on a new home (after a long
search) on Fox Island! Farewell Edmonds, hello Fox Island. Now for the fun of packing and moving. Our next event during the weekend of April 12 – 14 is a Fleet Captain event at the Daffodil Marine Festival, hosted by the Tacoma Yacht Club. See details for signing up in the newsletter, and we can discuss more specifics at the next meet-ing. Later in the month over the weekend of May 5 is the official Opening Day of boating season, with a multitude of events hosted by the Seattle and Queen City yacht clubs. All our best and happy boating in 2019! Commodore Larry & Keli Parrett
