Various wireless technologies, like simple
RF, Bluetooth, UWB or infrared might beused for communication between sensors
The new wireless technology as Bluetooth to honor the 10th century king in

WHAT IS
BLUETOOTH ?Bluetooth is a proprietary open wireless
protocol for exchanging data over shortdistances (using short length radio waves)from fixed and mobile devices, creatingpersonal area networks (PANs).
It was originally conceived as a wireless
alternative to RS-232 data cables.
Blue tooth operates in the unlicensed ISMband at 2.4 GHZ frequency band and use
frequency hopping spread spectrumtechni ue.

PICONETWhen a device wants to establish a Piconet
it has to perform inquiry to discover otherBlue tooth devices in the range.
Inquiry procedure is defined in such a wayto ensure that two devices will after sometime, visit the same frequency same time
when that happens, required information isexchanged and devices can use pagingprocedure to establish connection.

SCATTER NETScatter net consists of several Piconets
connected by devices participating inmultiple Piconet.
These devices can be slaves in all Piconetsor master in one Piconet and slave in otherPiconets.
Using scatter nets higher throughput isavailable and multi-hop connectionsbetween devices in different Piconets are
possible. i.e., The unit can communicate inone Piconet at time so the um from

From the user point of view, querying andtasking are two main services provided bywireless sensor networks.
Queries are used when user requires only thecurrent value of the observed phenomenon.
Tasking is a more complex operation and isused when a phenomenon has to be observedover a large period of time.
Both queries and tasks of time to the networkby the gateway which also collects replies andforwards them to users.

Communication with sensor network -Short-range wireless communication isused (Bluetooth, UWB, RF, IR, etc.).
Provides functions like discovery ofsmart sensor nodes, generic methodsfor sending and receiving data to and
from sensors, routing.

Communication with users Gatewaycommunicates with users or other sensornetworks over the Internet, wide areanetworks (GPRS, UMTS), satellite or someshort-range communication technology. It
is possible to build a hierarchy ofgateways, i.e. to connect gatewaysdescribed above to a backbone and then toprovide a higher-level gateway that is used
as a bridge to other networks and users.

APPLICATIONS
Health monitoring - Wireless sensor networkscan be used in various ways to improve orenhance health care services.
Environmental monitoring - Fire detection, water pollution monitoring, trackingmovements of birds, animals or insects, detection of chemical and biological agentsare some of the examples of environmentalapplications of wireless sensor networks.

Industrial safety -In such scenariosthousands of various sensors are deployed
in and around monitored object andrelevant information is gathered andanalyzed in order to access condition ofthe object after a natural or man-made
disaster. Similarly, sensor can be used tomonitor the status of different machines infactories, along with the air pollution or firemonitoring.
Other applications - Home automation, detecting car thefts, vehicle monitoringand tracking, interactive toys are examples
of other possible applications.

CONCLUSIONS
Wireless sensor networks are an interestingresearch area with many possibleapplications.
There are still many open issues ranging fromthe choice of physical and MAC layer todesign of routing and application levelprotocols.
Bluetooth is a possible choice for datacommunication in sensor networks.
Blue tooth represents a great chance for
sensor-networked architecture.

With a blue tooth RF link, users only need tobring the devices within range, and thedevices will automatically link up andexchange information,
Thus implementation of blue tooth technology
for sensor networks not only cuts wiring costbut also integrates the industrial environmentto smarter environment.
