A Big Year for MapInfo
Professional!!
Product Overview 2014

Disclaimer
This material contained within is intended to depict the new direction of
MapInfo Professional. Many of these new capabilities are still under
development and may change as needed.
All new features and improvements are not guaranteed to be in a
specific version or exactly as shown.

It’s what you asked for!
This year will see an unprecedented leap forward for MapInfo Professional with a
renewed emphasis on making it the best GIS product for our customers. We
heard from many of our customers through conversations, user workshops,
surveys and our Ideas web site.
The message we have heard is clear:
You want to make better looking output and to do it with less work. That is why
this release is focused on building the new Layout Designer and dramatically
improving the usability of MapInfo Professional. Both of these are large efforts
that we are laying the foundation for this year and will be continuing into future
versions in 2015.
4
2014 Plan One size does not fit all…
The 32 bit version will remain the classic MapInfo Professional. We are adding the much requested “Layout
Designer” to this version. This will be available in the usual June release.
The 64 bit version will also include the “Layout Designer” but this version is designed to be the foundation for
the future of MapInfo Professional. The 64-bit architecture paves the way for handling much larger data sets
and using far more available memory for processing. We are also adding multi-core and background
processing to make MapInfo faster so that it can handle the demands of big, complex data.
In addition to the horsepower upgrades, the 64 bit version will come with an entirely new ribbon-based user
interface. The new UI is much more intuitive and provides the ability to make many common operations easier
to accomplish. This will be available October 2014.
This will be largely backwards compatible with the classic MapInfo, except:
• Customization of the UI will be with a new API
• MapInfo Professional will allow windows to be placed on any connected display
• Building OEM solutions from Integrated Mapping will use a new .NET API
• We have dropped Crystal Reports and the Graph window capability for this release
Both 32 and 64 bit versions for the varying needs of our users

Layout Designer (32 and 64 bit versions)
Maps can now be fully
interactive on the layout.
Labeling, Edit, Scale,
Zoom, or any other map
changes can be done
without the need to go to
a separate map window.
Alignment bars and snap-
to-grid (same as in the
new legend designer)
Text boxes that support
auto-wrapping text … to
be extended to support
rich text.
Shown here is the 64-bit user interface

Ribbon User Interface
Menu and toolbar system replaced with ribbon navigation.
Ribbon can be customized to remove things you don’t need or to reorganize around your workflow.
Customization can be done via GUI or through an API.
The new ribbon organizes the capabilities of MapInfo Professional so that you have
what need where you need it. No more cluttered user interface!
8
Window Management
All windows now support docking, floating and tabbed modes.
Floating windows can be moved onto secondary monitors.
Windows can be “closed” to reduce clutter but re-opened when needed.
New Window Manager allows you to see all windows by type and hide/unhide them, as needed.
9
Mini Toolbars
Common map functions are
readily available on a new
floating toolbar in the map.
This makes moving around
the map or operations such
as labeling much less
tedious:
– Selection
– Pan
– Zoom in/out
– Label tool
– Label Font

Performance
Improvements:
Multi-threading of selected object
processing commands to use more or
all of the available processors
• Split
• Erase
• Erase Outside
• Buffer
Run and track multiple time
consuming tasks in the background
while continuing to use MapInfo
Professional to do other work.
New raster grid format (.MRR) has
substantially improved rendering
times
11
Label Properties & Preview
Label settings are bundled into groups of settings to make getting good output much simpler.
One click to make changes. For example, click “Bold” to change all labels in the layer to bold automatically.
Settings Preview – hovering on the settings (label settings, font, size, etc.) will automatically show on the map in most cases
12
Raster Grid
New MRR (multi-
resolution raster)
format can handle
much larger input
data while at the
same time creating
a smaller footprint
file.
Dramatically faster
rendering of grid
files.
Some grid
capabilities will now
be built into the
base MapInfo
Professional. The
exact feature set is
TBD.
