There are still a few gaps, particularly ticket sellers, the chocolate wheel, canteen, BBQ/drinks selling, popcorn, gladiator, wrecking ball, soccer ball dart board and trike rides,. If you can help out on the day, please do so. Our fete is one of our major fundraisers and one where everyone can help in some way. So while the children enjoy all the activities, maybe Mum or Dad could help out on a stall for an hour or so. CAKE/PRODUCE, PLANTS, TOMBULI, ‘EVERYONE’S A WINNER’ We are still looking for donations for these stalls. All donations go towards a successful fete. OUT-OF-UNIFORM DAY Tomorrow is an out-of-uniform day. CANCELLATION If the fete has to be cancelled tomorrow due to the weather, an alert will be placed on the school app and the cancellation will be broadcast on Radio 98.9 War FM FABULOUS FATHER’S DAY STALL A very successful Father’s Day Stall was again held at school last Friday due to the generosity of our families and the hard work of our parents. Many thanks to Jessica Howard who coordinated the stall and to all her helpers who helped wrap the presents at the working bees and man the stall on Friday. We also appreciate the generosity of Rohr’s Home Timber & Hardware, 3D’s Butchery, Diggs Butchery, Johnson’s Butchery and the Armatree Hotel for their donations to our raffles. The lucky winners of the raffles were: First Prize – Harry, Ella & Mia Mudford, Second Prize – Evie & Oliver Peart, Third Prize: Hannah Meers, Fourth Prize: Lucy, David & Thomas McIsaac. Winners of the class raffles were: Kinder – Luka Van der Walt , Year 1 – Oliver Peart, Year 2 – Mia Mudford, Year 3 – Sophie Gilmour, Year 4 – Hudson Duffy, Year 5 – Beatie Davis, Year 6 – Harry Mudford. COONABARABRAN HORSE SPORTS Congratulations to our fourteen students who represented our school at the Coonabarabran Horse Sports last Thursday and Friday. Thank you to Ashleigh Mudford and Stacey Thomas for being our team managers. There were over 200 children in attendance from primary and secondary schools throughout the diocese. All children from Joey’s rode well and competed with great spirit and sportsmanship in events including; dressage, campdrafting, sporting, stock horse challenges and rider classes. A special mention to Clancy Larkin from Kinder who took home Champion of the 5 year old age group. Thank you to St Lawrence’s Coonabarabran for hosting such a great event. Thank you also to all the parents for preparing the children and the horses for this event. CONGRATULATIONS DAKOTAH Congratulations to Dakotah Gilmour who has received third prize in the Bathurst Diocese for her Christmas Artwork. Dakotah and her family travelled to Molong yesterday for the special presentations. Her prized artwork will now go to Sydney for the state judging! Well done Dakotah! GUEST SPEAKER – SAM BAILEY AT GILGANDRA HIGH SCHOOL Our Years 5 and 6 students have been invited to Gilgandra High School tomorrow morning to listen to guest speaker, Sam Bailey. Sam suffered a spinal injury in a car accident at 19 years of age, leaving him a C6/C7 quadriplegic. He has overcome many challenges to become a farmer, ultralight pilot, public speaker and best- selling author. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to listen to this inspirational man and we thank Gilgandra High School for inviting us. ICAS WRITING & SPELLING COMPETITIONS The ICAS Writing Competition will be held next Tuesday, 10 September and the ICAS Spelling Competition on Thursday, 12 September for those children who have entered these competitions. ‘SCIEN-TASTIC’ SCHOOL PERFFORMANCE All children from Kinder to Year 6 will attend our school performance ‘Scien- tastic’ on Monday, 9 September. This fun filled show will get our scientific brains working. It explores many aspects of science through a range of thought provoking and wacky science experiments with loads of laughs thrown in. ST JOSEPH’S SCHOOL ANNUAL CONCERT ‘A Million Dreams’ Gilgandra High School Hall – Wednesday, 18 September Our annual concert involving all students from Kinder to Year 6 will be staged on Wednesday, 18 September at the Gilgandra High School hall at 6:00 p.m. The students and staff put a lot of time and effort into the concert and it always promises to be a great night’s entertainment. CONCERT REHEARSAL Wednesday, 11 September Our one and only full concert rehearsal at the Gilgandra High School Hall will be held next Wednesday, 11 September. It is very important for everyone to be at school on this day so we can practise on the stage with the microphones etc. As this is a full dress rehearsal the children will need their costumes by this date. CATHOLIC SCHOOLS SPORTS DAY The Catholic Schools Sports Day is a day held each year with the participating schools including St Joseph’s Gilgandra, St John’s Baradine and St Brigid’s Coonamble. This year the sports will be held in Baradine NEXT FRIDAY, 13 September. The sports day is for ALL STUDENTS from Kinder to Year 6 and includes a march, war cry, class races, ball games, novelty activities, relays, and tug-o’-wars. THE CHILDREN ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR SPORTS UNIFORM. Our full sports uniform includes: school sports shirt, maroon sports shorts (boys) or maroon sports skirt or skort (girls), school sports socks, white shoes, school hat. For the march the children MUST WEAR JOEY’S SPORTS SOCKS OR ALL WHITE SOCKS AND ALL WHITE JOGGERS. They may change into joggers after the march if they wish. The children will be required to assemble in the designated area at the Baradine Oval by 9:00 a.m. to get ready for the march which will begin at 9:30 a.m. The children will then be walked to the marching assembly area in Tomorrow, Friday, 6 September 3:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Wellington Street. The march will conclude at the Oval. The day will conclude at 2:00 p.m. We will be hiring a bus and a note will go home early next week regarding travel arrangements.

CONFIRMATION Sunday, 22 September – 9:30 a.m.

The excitement is certainly building in anticipation of the upcoming celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Sacrament will be administered by Bishop Michael McKenna on Sunday, 22 September at 9:30 a.m. This is such an important event at our school and we really encourage everyone to be at church on Sunday, 22 September to celebrate with our Year 6 leaders. It would be fabulous to have lots there for this great occasion. We would also like to invite all children from St Joey’s to attend the Confirmation Mass to sing in the choir. If your child is interested in singing in the choir, please see Mrs Banks upon your arrival at the church. AROUND THE CLASSROOMS KINDER This week in Kinder we have been busily working on writing recounts and including elaborations to make our writing more interesting. We enjoyed a visit from our preschool friends yesterday and loved reading them our book, “Meg at Sea”. In Maths we have been revising tricky teen numbers and modeling addition number sentences on our 10 frames. We painted some very groovy witches and wrote a description of them. We are getting ready for our concert practice next week so please bring along your costume in a bag with your name clearly labelled on each item. Have a great weekend.

Mrs Alison Newstead YEAR 1 Congratulations Year 1 on celebrating a lovely Liturgy today. Thank you to everyone who came to join us. In class we have been adding numbers to 10, drawing pentagons and octagons and describing number patterns. In Phonics we have been revising sounds and our Grammar focus is adverbs. We are still busily preparing for the Concert. Our whole school dress rehearsal is on Wednesday please make sure all costumes are at school on this day. We are all looking forward to celebrating the fete tomorrow, thank you to those parents who have offered their time to help at this important school fundraiser.

Mrs Melinda Morris & Mrs Mia van der Walt YEAR 2 Only one more sleep until the Joey’s fete and we can’t wait! Hopefully Year 2 students/parents have been busy cooking cakes and slices for the Infants Cake Stall. Marching and ball game practices have been in full swing in readiness for next week’s sports day at Baradine. Please check your child has white shoes for the marching. In Maths we focused on 3D properties, subtraction and addition and reading the calendar. During Spelling and Phonics we revised the ‘j’, ‘dge’, ‘ge’ sounds. The writing focus is Information Reports and we wrote great reports on the lifecycle of a ladybird. See you at the fete – and have a great weekend. Miss Lisa Harvey YEAR 3 has had another busy week. During Maths we have looked at multiplication, division and giving directions. In our Literature unit we have continued to read our novel, “The Magic Finger”. While in Text Types this week we have been writing a book review on “The Twits”. We have looked at what makes a good review and how this can influence others on reading certain books. During Science we became taxonomists and studied some of the living animals found on the playground. Our concert rehearsals are coming along really well. We encourage everyone to start bringing in costumes for our full dress rehearsal next Wednesday. If you are having trouble finding something then please let us know. Mrs Donna Colwell & Mrs Meichelle Schier YEAR 4 is very excited about the school fete tomorrow! Thank you parents for sending in some donations for our ‘Tombuli’ stall, we really appreciate it! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone there and enjoying themselves! Our concert rehearsal is next Wednesday and we have been busily perfecting our performance in preparation. Students should be very proud of their efforts, it has been fantastic to see it all coming together! We have also been practising marching as the Catholic Schools Sports Day is quickly approaching. Year 4 has started completing portfolio tasks to bring home at the end of term and show parents what we have been learning. We’ve also been studying decimal place value and square metres in Maths. Miss Prue Giffin YEAR 5 Another busy week has flown by in Year 5. During Maths we have been working on decimal place value, multiplication and making 3D objects and nets with matchsticks and blu-tak. We have continued to work on our speeches this week, with lots of interesting topics being explained, we can’t wait to hear them. We began a new topic in Religion, ‘Celebrating the Sacraments’, where we watched some insightful videos by Fr Rob Galea. We are looking forward to the fete tomorrow. Year 6 is busily preparing for Confirmation, having made many community connections through their Service Projects.
