Cultural Immersion and Learning through Fun

This year's annual GSP Student Activity 2008 was held on 20-21 September in Phetchaburi and Hua Hin. The event offered the opportunity for new students, particularly those who come from abroad to immerse themselves in the beauty and magnificence of Thai arts and culture. Thirty students from all programs of the Graduate School of Psychology (MSCP, MAIFS, and PhD.CP), accompanied by Dr. Carl Castore and office staff

Aum and Lifan, reportedly enjoyed themselves throughout the trip.

The group visited Thai cultural and historical places such as Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park, which was built as a summer palace by King Mongkut in the 1860s; Maruekkhathaiwan Palace, a royal seaside resort which was constructed from the demolished Hat Chao Samran Palace by King Vaijravudh in 1923; and the zoological garden, where one can enjoy viewing different species of deers, peafowls, monkeys, among others.

Kaeng Krachan Country Club and Resort served as the group's home base which was appreciated particularly for its cozy small houses, Thai repasts which were judged "aroi mak mak," (very delicious) and for its peaceful and harmonious natural landscape. Excitement filled the air when the group went river boating, cycling, swimming, and played football and volleyball. Everyone found the locals to be welcoming, warm, and friendly. Cha-am beach was the fmal destination where the group members enjoyed swimming, "banana" boating, horse riding, or just simply laid back, eating seafood. And for the Catholics in the group, Sunday Mass was held in the resort, officiated by Fr. Gregorio (MSCP student).

Apart from the local tours, group members participated in a number of games and activities throughout the two days which basically gave everyone many opportunities to get to know and understand each other better, to be more appreciative of other cultures, and to be proud of

their own uniqueness in a culturally diverse setting. Faculty, staff, and students offered a glimpse into their respective countries: Belgium, Burma, China, India, Iran, Nepal, Nigeria, United States of America, Vietnam, and Thailand. Many songs were sung, many funny stories were told, and many good words were said. It was, indeed, a journey of discovery, team- building, cultural sensitivity, friendship, and joyfulness. After all, the main purpose of the trip was "Learning through Fun."

Faculty Room C5

Technology changes the way instructors utilize office space and interact with the students. In the past, faculty room C5 located at the fifth floor of the Coronation Building, Hua Mak campus, was among the least desirable places instructors would prefer to work at. But the things changed after the wireless network at Hua Mak campus became operational. A tiny notebook and a connection to the Internet give comfort to the conventional office space.

The faculty room provides a great view to the King's Lawn, Sala Pratipalai and the famous park with the lake surrounded by
